New NegaFix profiles SF6

We are still in the process to make new negFix profiles available and did not want to delay version SilverFast V6.

So, please, we ask for a little patience, we are doing our best to get the fixes and new profiles done.

    Scanner: Nikon Super Coolscan 4000ED
    SilverFast AI (NikonM) v6.0.1d12
I am currently scanning Kodak Supra, ProFoto, Advantix and Fuji Nexia film.

The colors in the Supra profile do not seem too bad, but the brightness is way too dark. I have to set a Negafix exposure of +3 before the scanned exposure scans close to the brightness of the original scenes without any special color corrections/enhancements.

The Options > Special > Lightness setting doesn't seem to work either, at least not when Negafix is involved. It's almost as if Negafix turns Lightness off automatically. I have found that a Lightness setting of -5 or -6 is needed to get the correct exposure if I do not use the Negafix exposure value.

After experimenting with SilverFast for more than 300 hours over the last 8 months, I have finally realised that the profiles should form the foundation of a good scan and should be able to produce a reasonable facsimile of the original scene before any color corrections or enhancements are applied. The profiles provided with the SilverFast (NikonM) v5/v6 software are below standard and cannot do this. I have spent countless hours trying to produce acceptable scans with very little success. On the other hand, v**s**n's profiles are excellent and easy to use. Why is it that a $40 product has better profiles than a $300+ product???

For the price we have paid for the SilverFast software, we should be getting professionally produced accurate profiles. Based on the history of the product and of the company, I believe we should also have the ability to import and export profiles to share with each other when the company does not deliver the goods.

We also need a better manual. There are a few controls within SilverFast that are not well explained in the manual and can be confusing to use. Some controls are not explained at all and we have to experiment to understand what they do.

I think Lasersoft needs to realise that their potential market is changing. Where their previous market was predominantly professionals, there are now more and more high-end amateurs like myself who are purchasing and using SilverFast for better and efficient scanning, and for OS X compatibility.

8 months and still waiting for Lasersoft to make accurate scanning easier...
