Colour Balance - PIE 1800S

I downloaded and installed the PhotoShop plug-in "SFE-6.0.1r10(PIE)". The prescan is noisier than V5.5 and there are minor visual noise problems with the prescan but when I complete the actual scan the result in PhotopShop 6 has an extremely red colourcast. I am scanning Fuji NPS 160 negatives that previously scanned perfectly in V5.5 Ai. Am I missing something or is this a software problem? - Slides scan perfectly.
Thanks,
Mike

I just downloaded the TWAIN version "SFE-6.0.1r10(PIE)". As noted in the previous post, slides seem OK, but pre-scans and negative scans that came out fine in 5.5SE now have such an overwhelming red color cast that they are worthless. Looks like a major glitch.

Thanks to Martin Leschke at Technical Support my PIE1800 Silver is now scanning negatives with excellent colour balance. The red colour cast has been eliminated.
Thanks again.

Can you share with us what was the tric? I find too that sometimes there's a big discrepancy between pre-scans and final image and as you said, usually it's turned to a strong red hue. Also, enabling the Auto mode for negatives doesn't deliver consistent results.

Radu,
Martin provided me with a new copy of the file saspi32u.dll dated Oct 7, 2002.
This was placed in c:/windows/system32- folder and the computer restarted. Make sure you first install the latest version 6, available from the LaserSoft website (6.01r10 2002-08-30). Also make sure you don't have another copy of saspi32u.dll anywhere else i.e. windows\system\. I'm using Windows ME and Silverfast is working flawlessly in both Negatives and Transparencies.
E-mail me privately and I will send you the file.
Mike

Why not make this file available for download from the website, so it won't be necessary to waste a support person's time?

Seconded: This sometimes happens on my Microtek Filmscan 35 (PIE1800/Heidelberg rebadged), and I usually have to rescan a few times to clear it.
Please Mike, or Martin, make this available on an "at your own risk" basis, so we can try it out!
Mike.

The current SilverFast Ai version (6.0.1r16) for the 1800s already contains the new DLL. A corresponding SE version will be available for download soon.
