umax powerlook 2100xl prob...

Postby billy » Wed May 10, 2006 6:59 pm

how do i work around a problem with my powerlook 2100XL that fails upon initialization, i suspect a faulty scsi controller. symptoms are upon power_on. 1. the power led is steady while the ready led blinks. 2. after several passes (mechanical initialization or calibratioon or post maybe. both leds blinks 4x and the power led 3x while the ready key illuminated. i noticed that this only happens when the scanner is already "hot" after several minutes of use. therefore, whenever i turn it on for the first time and it passes "post" i dont want to turn it off anymore bec., if so. it will not initialize anymore. we have two powerlook 2100XL(s). both with the same problem. any comment on this? btyw its firmware version is 1.4. thanks in advance. :D

Dear Billy

first, I assume you're speaking about the scanner's LEDs.

You should expect that when the scanner is powered on, it will run through its initialisation steps, including a mechanical test, self-calbration to white-point, warming up and synchronising the CCD.
When it's done, it should have both, power and ready LED steady.
If something fails, the blinking signal will indicate what kind of failure occured.
Then you want to consult you scanner's manual or manufacturer support to learn more about the issue.
