Transparencies, SE and PowerlookIII

Postby brianus » Thu Jun 16, 2005 4:38 pm

Hi, I'm running Silverfast SE 6.2.1r4 on Mac OS X 10.3.4. I want to scan using my PowerlookIII's transparency adapter. I can't find any info on this in the (sparse) documentation, but I've seen on these forums a few posts indicating that this can be done by selecting "Transparency" on the "General" tab. Well... there IS no such option under General, in my version of the software. Why?

Dear brianus

I think what was being meant by other is the "General" tab on the SilverFast main control window.
The is an option to tell SilverFast if the original is a reflective or transparency, and if it positive or negative.

Have a look here: http://www.silverfast.com/faq/1009/en.html

Kind regards

I know that's what it's supposed to look like, but mine doesn't. Here's a screenshot of my General tab:

As you can see, there's no "Original:" field at all. Is it just because it's the SE version? Because I thought SE was supposed to have this feature as well.

By the way, the company I work for is also called "LSI". Heh...

Seems that LSI is everywhere ;)

This function isn't depended on SE or Ai. During SilverFast's startup sequence, it checks the scanner for available hardware features (focus, ICE, hard multi-sampling, etc, etc, transpareny unit).
If the TPU can't be detected, e.g. problem with the cabling in separate units that are attached to the scanner, the option to scan transparencies isn't available in the SilverFast GUI.

Please try:
a. shut off scanner and shut down SilverFast
b. dis- and reconnect the TPU cable to the scanner.
c. restart scanner, wait until it is fully initialised
d. restart SilverFast

Meanwhile, I will have an internal check, whether the TPU is supported at all. There are a few scanners for which SilverFast doesn't feature this capability.

I'll keep you posted. Best regards

TPU is supported for the Powerlook III.
If there is no such option present in SilverFast, there is a problem with the TPU cable.

I can be astonishingly stupid sometimes.

I didn't even realize there was a cable! I found it, it works now. Thanks,

Brian
