SF 6Ai (Calibration)

Postby Drol » Tue Mar 04, 2003 11:38 pm

Scanner: Umax PL 3000
Software: SilverFast 6 Ai.

Two questions:

1. Using SF 6 Ai, do I need to make two different ICC profiles for high and low resolution lenses separately?

2. Using a profile "Scanner -> Internal" and using "Calibration" engine gives me pale images with no contrast which have blue cast.
If I use "Windows ICM" engine with that same profile gives me dark oversaturated and reddish image.
Neither case is correct.

I tired to make my own profile using GretagMacbeth. Situation is the same. "Calibration" setting gives pale blueish images, and "Windows ICM" gives oversaturated and dark images.

Note: At the end of the scan, SF converts images to "Adobe RGB (1998)"

Am I missing something?

Please advise me.

It was one week behaviour. I resetted machine resetted defaults of SFAI then setted em once again to what it was supposed to be. Since then it all works fine again.

Im using Windows ICM instead, now. I have a feeeling it gives better results.

Same thing as it was before.
Umax 3000 + SF Ai6.0.1

I scan one image and it gets image file #1, I rescan it (without changes) and it makes a scan with severe cast.

I suspect some auto correct options are on, although i tripple checked everything and seems like it isnt.

OK heres the deal. I want to use my custom made profiles (made with GretagMacbeth software). I want t o scan high bit (16/48) transparencies, without any adjustments and convert em into AdobeRGB.

What settings shoud I set up and how? What pitfalls to look out for?
How to configure SF color management to use my custom profiles?
what should I set to turn off ALL automatic options and to get consistent scans?

thank you.

After several months, I have FINALLY pinned down the problem.

Its a BUG in SilverFast, and here it is:

If Windows ICM (WinXPsp2) is selected as color engine, when you press [SCAN BATCH], SilverFast scans and uses a profile selected in CMS settings. Next time you press SCAN BATCH, it doesnt use scanner profile.

So between each scan I have to go to "Options" -> "CMS" and press Apply. Kinda pain in the butt Id say. Not to mention I had my scanner sent TWICE for repairs due inconsistent scans.

Will you fix it, Lasersoft?

Maybe its important to say that im using Standalone application to start up Silverfast Ai with option Reopen SF After Scan checked ON.

Wild guess is that SFAi doesnt reload profile usage after it automatically reopens.

Please use SilverFast Ai 6.0.2 instead of 6.0.1. We have changed the Calibration, so it is full ICC confirmed.

kind regards

Dear Drol,

we were able to isolate and fix the problem. The fix will be included in the upcoming 602r39, but it may take two weeks until the versions are available for download.
