Quick Question regarding 6450

Postby MretzNashe » Tue Oct 25, 2005 11:59 am

Hello everyone. Recently, I took my Umax Astra 6450 firewire scanners out that I've had for years. Ever since I bought them, they were very difficult to use. I was only ever able to get them to work once a long time ago in Windows 98SE on a desktop. Now, I have two laptops with Windows 2000 and XP. Initially, I installed the software on 2000 and all the hardware seemed to function properly. However when I tried a scan and prescan, the images come out very oddly.

With or without something in the scanner, the same thing happens: an image of grayness that fades slowly to white shows up. I tried it on XP, no go there at all. I actually had a separate drive for one of the laptops that I put Windows 98SE on, and I can't even get the Device Manager to recognize the scanner, so 98SE is out as well. 2000 seems to be good. I tried both SilverFast and the OEM drivers (VistaScan) and the same gray image comes up.

I thought the first scanner I had was broken, but I have two Umax 6450s and tried the other. Same thing happened. My question is does anyone know how to remedy this situation?

Thank you for listening :)

Dear MretzNashe

no obvious problem in configuration or setup. We will need to check this out in our internal testing center. I will contact you about our findings.

Best regards
