Powerlook 1000, OS X, Firewire, Can't find scanner

Postby jim0266 » Sun Sep 28, 2003 7:44 am

I can't get SF6 to see the scanner. I uninstalled MagicScan and reinstalled SF6. The scanner works fine with MagicScan. I've posted my FS_LogFile at http://www.jimarnold.org/SF_LogFile.txt.

I also have a Microtek 4000tf with SF6 and it works perfectly.

Dear jim0266 -

Just I tested our newest version from the web SF 6.1.0r4 on Mac OS 10.2.6 with Umax PowerLook 1000 - FireWire.
After installing SilverFast I switched on the scanner and rebooted the Mac. The scanner was found by the Mac ( Apple System profiler ) and SilverFast too - everything worked fine. If you still have these Problems -

Please download our newes version from the web or go to :
https://www.silverfast.com/problemreport/en.html
and fill out this form.
The adress of your Log_file could not be found at your server

regards

Christoph

A reboot solved the problem

Postby jim0266 » Tue Sep 30, 2003 4:12 pm

sorry about the url. A period got inserted in the address after .txt

A reboot solved the problem. Perhaps a notice should pop up saying you have to reboot. We OS X users never reboot any more!

Re: to reboot, or not to reboot...

Dear Jim,

I just checked our installers and found there is no actual drivers installed.. only the Photoshop plugin. Rebooting after installing our software isn't actually accomplishing anything. It is possible your scanner was still under the influence of Umax's software (even though you uninstalled it). Their software does use drivers, and therefore needs a reboot to be fully flushed out of the system.

Take care
Nick

Nick, thanks that for the information. That makes sense to me since the MagicScan software seems to be very finicky. Right now I'm testing the Lasersoft software against MagicScan.

I am using the scanner and TA adapter to scan full sheets of 35mm negative sleeves to make electronic contact sheets. They are being scanned at 600 dpi. I seem to have much better control over the image quality with SF, but SF is really, really slow compared to MagicScan.

I'll have to time it, but it seems to take about 7-10 minutes to scan an 8x10 sheet of B&W negs with SF but only takes 2.5 minutes to do it with MagicScan.

Does this seem slow for SF?

-Jim
