Coninuted Umax 2400s problems

Postby UrbanVoyeur » Sun May 11, 2003 11:29 pm

I've been posting the problems I'd have with Silverfast software and my umax 2400s scanner for over 6 months. I've been wirting to Silverfast aboth the problems for nearly TWO YEARS.

5.0.x was buggy.
5.5.x produced out of registration scans
6.0.x can't find the scanner.

It doesn't matter which windows 2000 machine I try it on (dual or single cpu) whether is a clean OS install or which ASPI layer I use (adaptec 4.7, 4.71, windows). Or which scsi card I try (adaptec, umax, other) or which SCSI cable or teminator I use.

The scanner worksperfectly with v**s**n and with the Umax Vist Scan.

I haven't been able to use Silverfast with this scanner since 2001. I am tired of writing customer support, info@ and whatver other links you've had over the years.

Will you guys
(1) Acknowledge that there is a problem
(2) Tell whether you EVER intend to fix it

Thank you.

And please, don't tell me submit yet another bug report. I've sent in over a dozen. You need to find them, and work it out.

J

Dear Voyager,
there is no record here of your problems. If you don't mind, please send a description of what happens when you try run SilverFast plus an "SF_logfile" of your current SilverFast version to support@silverfast.de.
Please also indicate SCSI details of your configuration:
SCSI ID of scanner, card used, how many other devices are connected to that same SCSI Bus, mention the operating system you're using.

impossible

It is IMPOSSSIBLE that you don't have a record of my problem.

There are post IN THIS FORUM dating back to 2002. I have emails dating back to to 2001.

AND I sent in a bug report via your web form on Friday 5/9/03, with a complete system description AND the 6.0.x log file on Friday.

Find that e-mail or at the very least, my posts in this forum. I've already wasted enough money on Silverfast for the Umax. I'm not going to waste my time sending in any more reports.

Your tracking system needs help.

give in and give up

Postby UrbanVoyeur » Tue May 13, 2003 1:27 am

Fine. I've sent in yet another e-mail to support. On this issue I realize that it is pointless. Its been over 2 years.

Some may ask why I am so irritated. Because between full version of AI, IT-8 calibration and upgrades, I spent over of $300 on Silverfast for the UMAX 2400s and it DOES NOT WORK.

I give in, and I give up.

Let me know when you get around to considering a problem. or better yet don't tell.

Just fix it.

in the mean time, I'll be using v**s**n.
(a) its cheaper
(b) it works with the 2400 (wow, what a concept)

Now, in all fairness, you have fixed other bugs with other scanners over the years (albeit slowly) but my patience with this problem is at an end.

problem solved

Postby UrbanVoyeur » Sun May 18, 2003 5:41 pm

The problem has finally been solved, thanks to help from the Lasersoft staff.

It was necessary to change the scanner driver from the Microsoft default to the Umax driver.

Once that was done, Silverfast 6.0.x works fine.

Its a shame that it took them 2 yrs to respond properly, but I am glad the problem is solved.

wrong driver

its a pity i have that umax 2400s only since some weeks and it is not yet installed. otherwise i could have helped you. i do pc-service and panoramic photography. mr heidorn of lasersoft has made wonderful scans of my 3d-aeropans with epson 1680 pro-scanner(which i cannot afford at the moment. have a look at http://www.europanorama.tk (worlds first 3d-aeropanoramic poster) be aware that those scans were made by me from prints. because original data were lost due to a crash and/or deleted(by epson...!. poster-prints are fantastic(57x235mm-color-negative.
