Astra 6450 not usable after OS 9.1?

I was told by UMAX that the software they provide with the Astra 6450 (VistaScan) is not supported after OS 9.1. I'm hoping there is another software option, such as SilverFast, that will allow me to use my scanner once I upgrade to OS X. Will it work or should I start shopping for a new scanner now?
