Astra 2200 Transparency Help

Postby mgilvey » Fri Nov 21, 2003 7:34 am

Greetings,

I have a UMAX Astra 2200, running on a Mac G4 with Panther. So far I've had no problem doing a reflective scan with your demo software. The computer saw the scanner as soon as I pluged it in and so did your software?yippy! My problem is transparencies. I made a prescan of a slide and the image is completely blown out (over exposed). The slide itself is very neutral in tone and the exposure is right on the money but the prescan looks terrible. I tried resetting the setting (shift click on the arrow on the main palette) the controls but that didn't help. I even layed sheets of dark paper down around the slide mount to limit the amount of white light that gets scanned.

What I do know: When I was using OS 9 (before I got panther) I used some program that came with my scanner. I forget the name of it but it was able to make a usable scan of a transparency?the only thing the software didn't have was all the control that your software has but it was able to make a usable scan. Poor as it was for print, I could usually rescue the image enough for web use. I need to get your software to give me a usable transparency scan. What should I do?

P.S. I use to run a Screen DS 2020 drum scanner and a Scitex SmartScan 340 flatbed so I was very excited when I saw the amount of control there is with your software even for a cheap-o scanner like the UMAX Astra 2200, I just need to figure out how to get a decent transparncy scan off my scanner and I'll be ready to purchase your software.

Hope you can help. Really, I hope you can because I really like SilverFast AI.

Mark

Dear Mark -
Just I downloaded our demo 6.1.0d5 for the Umax Astra 2200 and tested it on mac 10.3.1. The Auto button is more for beginners, but will not used by experts. If you enjoy our amount of control buttons : please go to: support >>> Online reviews and tutorials >>> Ian Lyons`s tutorials.
:o Here you find a lot of informations how to use SilverFast and handle difficult images.

regards

Christoph
