Scanning canvas without glare

Postby Lady Rando » Tue Aug 10, 2004 10:22 pm

I am using Silverfast AI version 6, and an epson 1640 XL to scan painting done on canvas. I'm getting small glares in the canvas weave, as you can see in this image:

How do I prevent this from happening?

Dear Lady Rando.

Frankly there is no way to prevent this since you do not have influence on the lighting from inside the scanner. As te "bulb" moves from one end of the flatbed to the other it evenly lights the surface of the canvas and will lead to the shown glares.

Kind regards.

because most (all?) bed scanners use light bulbs to produce the light which is reflected off the document during scanning, your best bet is to use a camera. experiment with using flash lights at different angles and not using flash lights at all.
