scanning 35mm strips in batch mode or job manager

Postby Riverside » Tue Apr 27, 2004 8:00 am

I'm new to SF....
I regularly scan both 35mm and 645 strips to thumbnails for cataloguing
I would like to set up a batch process enabling me to define a filename prefix (eg 3081-3CN-T-) to be followed by a numeric suffix (eg 01-02 etc)
Scanner BTW is Epson 4870 + winXP on PC
It would be nice if each image was Auto Adjusted for exposure etc. - scan size, resolution etc is identical for all in batch.

It appears that this would be a good job for Job Manager but I can't see how to set up the file name - it defaults to Batch01 or similar

Am I missing something obvious?

Dear Riverside,
to set up the file name in the Job Manager is very easy. Before you add the image to the Job Manager, change the image name in the main window of SilverFast. Every image will have identical resolution, scan size, ect. but different names - if you like.

best regards

Christoph-

I have the same question as Riverside, and I don't think that you understand exactly what we want to do here.

It's clear how to manually name each frame and have those names transfer over to the job manager. However, what we are (or at least I am) talking about is the ability to scan a whole roll of film and have the individual images be named something like:

Roll12345-Frame1
Roll12345-Frame2
Roll12345-Frame3
Roll12345-Frame4
etc...

What we're looking for is a way to simply enter Roll12345-Frame as a prefix in a single place, then have SilverFast (Ai in my case) automatically name the frames 1, 2, 3... and have the frame number be appended to the prefix. It would be good if this could also remember where you left off (or at least have the ability to enter starting frame number) so when I first can frames 1-12 it'll be named accordingly AND it will remember to start numbering 13-24 (my scanner does up to 12 frames at a time).

At a minimum, you should be able to edit frame names / numbers from the job manager without first selecting the frame, then clicking the edit-pencil icon, then moving to the frame tab, and editing. I'm thinking with a right click->rename option popup.

Thanks - hope there's an easy way to do this. Your reply is eagerly awaited.

Thanks!

dear Weinberk,

sorry  - with the SilverFast AI it?s not possible to what you want.
But this feature you will find at the SilverFast HDR. :D So my suggestion is: use the SilverFast 48 Bit HDR modus and scan the whole scan area of your scanner or make a batch scan of the whole film strip, if you use a film scanner. Afterwards you can work on the images with the SilverFast HDR ( try the demo form the web ) very quick whatever you like 8)

regards

Christoph
