iSRD on Kodachrome slides producing artifacts...

Postby nathan118 » Sun Nov 22, 2009 12:03 am

I'm trying to scan some kodachrome slides from the 50's-70's, and everything is working great...except the iSRD.

The problem I'm having is that it's actually corrupting the image in the really dark areas. I think this is due to the fact that the slides aren't "smooth," but seem to built up to produce the darker areas, and this is somehow messing up the infrared scan.

I usually set infrared all the way to 20, but I lowered it to 10....and it this time it didn't corrupt the dark areas...but it didn't remove any of the other artifacts either.

Any tips for using iSRD with kodachrome slides? Thanks!

Dear Nathan,

Scanning Kodachromes using iSRD for infrared correction of scratch and dust can be a complicated task. The emulsion Kodachromes are made of has a special characteristic which disperses the infrared light, especially on dark areas where is more dense, hence you see the artifacts there.

There is a method for working with Kodachromes using layers and masks on iSRD, you can check our video tutorials at: http://www.silverfast.com/showmovie/en.html?movien=317&mode=inline&hide=desc

Some other details can be found here: isrd

Dear Nathan,

Please make sure you have installed the latest version of QuickTime on your system. If you have not, please go to: http://www.quicktime.com, download and install the plugin and restart your system. You should be able to open the video afterwards.
