Fuji RD slide film - what are some good color corrections?

Postby cyro » Wed Feb 02, 2005 6:46 am

Hi,

I am about to scan in 2000 slides on FUJI RD slide film (35mm). I noticed they pretty much all have a greenish/blueish tint and yes, my scanner (Nikon LS2000) is calibrated with IT8 and from what I can tell the color is dead-on.

So, now I am looking at these slides in IrfanView and I am wondering: what are some popular correction values out there? Has anybody made some experiences with boosting red-values on FUJI RD slide film? I played around a bit and they do look a lot better but still I can't seem to get it "quite right" :)

Any help appreciated!

Thanks,
-CyRo

Dear CyRo

if you want to adjust the Negafix profile for you given film material, I suggest you have a closer look on the expert mode (not present in SilverFast SE) of the Negafix tool.
After developing your own profile you can save it and import it lateron to another computer, if you like.

You will find a guide to the Negafix tool in PDF format here:
https://www.silverfast.com/show/negafix/en.html

A valuable read is the SilverFast Negafix tutorial in Ian Lyon's Computer Darkroom:
http://www.computer-darkroom.com/sf5-ne ... egafix.htm

If you would like to have the Negafix workflow presented in a movie, you're in the luck, too:
https://www.silverfast.com/showmovie/en. ... Fix-en.mov

However, when scanning positives, film material is relatively unimportant when contrasted to calibration.
If you are certain that colours usually are read correctly, there probably might be something special about the Fuji RD film material.

Some films do go well together with ICE, so try if turning of ICE does change the situation. If not, Nikon support or the nikonians.org forum might aid you further.

Hello cyro,

.. I also suffered from a greenish appearance of slide scans and after
a long struggle the final solution was to exchange the calibration target
and repeat the calibration. I had a target from the batch E040625 that
was not performing well with SF calibration.
You could also try the free CMS profiler at www.argyllcms.com which is by far
not as convenient as the SF but for me deliviered better results with the LUT
profile type.

good luck,

bye
