Dear Peter

Ian's tutorials are online in his computer darkroom:
http://www.computer-darkroom.com/sf5_contents.htm
As I wasn't sure which you had been looking, you might want to ask Ian himself:
http://www.computer-darkroom.com/about.htm

SilverFast developed multi-scanning for scanner which don't have that important feature implemented in their hardware.
Read on about this:

Multiscanningh and B&W Scanning - MICROTEK FilmScan1800

Postby RP » Fri Oct 14, 2005 1:19 pm

Thank you for links on Ian's tutorials, but there I'm still confused about
multiscanning and B&W scanning:

Q2: Is Multiscan option possible on Microtek FilmScan 1800 ???
In your answer you gave me link to SF explanation page about multiscanning option, with that i can' help myself. On my SF AI is no button visible for multiscanning option.
I use update of SF 6 AI (SFE-6.4.2r5a(FilmScan)) and i can't find this option.
and
Q3:Is better to scan BW neg in 48 bit color or in 16 bit Grayscale?

and again about my bigest problem:
Q: Is something done on solution for better film strip positioning and fine self correction of placement of frames on film strip.

regards Peter Rus

Dear Peter

ad (Q2) Yes, in the Ai Studio and SE plus you shall find the new SilverFast <a href="https://www.silverfast.com/show/silverfast-multisampling/en.html">multi-sampling</a> feature.
Please feel free to download a <a href="https://www.silverfast.com/sf-download/demo/en.html">demo</a> version.

This way you can easily assure yourself that your personal systems configuration does work before buying anything.
Thus you are able to explore all the features of SilverFast and check if it suits your needs.

If you've already installed the latest SilverFast on your system, you could also just temporarily unserialise your version for a test.

ad (Q3) Although there are half a dozen film offset improvement suggestions on the developers' task lists, none of them deals specifically with the Microtek Filmscan 1800.
While the SF version for that scanner might profit as a by-product, in doubt I suggest you don't want to hesitate to launch an appropriate request by <a href="https://www.silverfast.com/problemreport/en.html?topic=Usage">contact</a>ing our support & testing staff.

Hy mr. Noack,

thank you for having time for me!
Some explanations:
ad Q2:
I have purchased SF Ai6 at the beginning of year 2004.
Now i see that multiscanning is available only for SF SE+ or Ai Studio version, but not for Ai6.
How is with that , Ai6 should be 'more advanced , sofisticated' version then any SE version? For SE+ is also available Upgrade to 'full version' Ai6. Is the multiscanning included?
How is for multiscanning option (plugin or small upgrade) for Ai6?

ad Q3:
Why must i reenter and relaunch support request again?

Since my purchase i'm trying to report some of my problems with working with Ai6.
I wrote many times and ask for help with problem of positioning and with errors in workflow with neg scan and filmstrips in many emails and report this problems in support forms etc, etc.
I was on line with mr. Sascha Bruhn since 27.04.2005 , then with you too on 22.10.2004 (Re: Again the same problems with newest version 6.2.1r9), when mr.Bruhn was not available, my last mail to mr. Bruhn was sent on 19.9.2005 (Some new solutions ??? MICROTEK FilmScan 1800), his last answer was on 26.11.2004.
Sorry that I cant add all my old emails on that thema and all forums enters.

Can you help me anyway?

Thanks
Peter Rus

Dear Mr Rus

ad (Q2) To cut a long story short: It is not in Ai, but in Ai Studio.

ad (Q3) So probably there does exist some kind of background information to this. Got any ticket numbers for me?

TIA and regards

YES, I see, but why not in AI6, if yes in SE+ (i see no logic there)?

I don't understand.... what 'ticket numbers'?
I can send you all my mentioned mails and requests, just tell me on which address. Here I can't attach other mails.

Dear Mr Rus

ad (Q2) mainly for marketing / contract reasons. But as I said, it is a longer story, too long for the imaging forum.

ad (Q3) I am sorry, if it was at the beginning of 2004 (I misread it at first and was under the impression at the beginning of this year), there was no trouble ticket request system in use.
Just forget about it and kindly start a new request as I proposed above.

Regards
Sonny

Q1:As mentioned above, is Ian Lyon's excellent tutorial :

http://www.rgbnet.co.uk/ilyons/16bit/16bit_1.htm

still visible somewhere?

Q2: Is Multiscan option possible on Microtek FilmScan 1800?

Q3: And finaly: Is better to scan BW neg in 48 bit color or in 16 bit Grayscale?

Thanks for your opinions.
Peter rus

I echo Q3: Isn't it better to scan BW in 48-bit colour? I would think more image data would be captured, wouldn't it?
