howdy,
after searching this site and this forum i have decided to post this seemingly simple inquiry here. what is the deal with making contact sheets on a v750 with silverfast? my preview and my dedicated scan both come out as a window cut from the middle of the full page. this page of negatives fits fine inside the "film area guide" so i don't see why it won't give me the full area. how to remedy this? i can't seem to make the scanning window any bigger to cover the negative page. thanks, ethan.

Dear Ethan
The deal is that the transparency window area is smaller than the glass surface of the scanner (in all directions), from that area there is one part which is used by the scanner lens and lamp (on both sides of the scanner) to calibrate the light source, etc. That is the safety area and should be left empty at all times.
For the exposed reasons you can not make the scanning area bigger (because the scanner simply can't) and it is always advisable to use the safty masks and film holders so the scanning material gets in the right portion of the effective scanning area.
If you place your films directly on the glass surface using the (very thin) film holder, you have to select the option "Transparency whole area" under the menu "original" in the general tab, it will not only give you the full scanning area available but it will also focus the lens to the right position for that type of scannings.
Thanks for your interest
Have a nice day
