Well, I'm in the midst of 'trying' :-) Confused re the dpi/ppi though. I have my output set to 2560x1600 as I figure that some images will be used on my 30" display. If I set 400dpi the enlargement is greater than when set at 4000 dpi. Resulting filesize is the same. Am I correct in assuming that bo...

> Which version of Ai did you purchase ? or was it with the scanner ? The AI Studio version, I.e. full version from LaserSoft. Thank you re clarifying/confirming that SF tools are meant for "during scan tweaking" which basically leaves out the option/thought of scanning en-masse (archiving) and then...

No HDR included anymore. At least not seperated. There is a 48 Bit HDR Color setting but I'm assuming it's to scan for later use with HDR version of SF?

Q re dpi setting: I have 8000 available but filesize jumps dramatically. 4000 more than adequate or should I go 8000?

TIA

Newbie looking for some getting started advice

I got the software and the books and am doing some reading and some experimenting but work keeps interfering, preventing me from going full blast. I got the Scanner calibrated but not much else yet. I have about a thousand or so Kodachrome transparencies, A Nikon 4000 Super CoolScan, No PhotoShop ye...

Thought I'd take a moment to close this thread by saying thank you for the quick delivery. Got my SF6 Studio today.

Now I just have to find the time to "play" :-)

Thanks to all for the help. Placed my order, including the docs, just in case :-)

I know there'll be lots of learning to do, hopefully there'll be patience and understanding when I come back with newbie questions.

Haven't read all of the book yet but looks encouraging.

Almost ready to plunk my money down. Last pre-buy question. Do I need the manual or quick-start hard copy extra? I assume it'll be in electronic form with the software?

Thanks

Scanner I have, I.e. Nikon Super Coolscan 4000. I'm now after what I need to get best possible scan with/from my transparencies. The software included by Nikon is not bad, but not great either as lots of fussing is required and that's where I lack experience so I'm hoping for SilverFast to in effect...

What flavoring of SF to buy

I have some 60's/70's era Kodachrome slides and negative strips I want to digitize. I simply want to peserve them and have them look as good (or as bad) as they do in their original format. I want to use the images for some printing but expect I'll use them mostly in slide-shows that will be viewed ...
