Re: Kodachrome scanning: Digital Ice vs Silverfast

The CS9000 has a modified ICE mode specifically for Kodachrome. It does not eliminate all of the issues with silver left in the slide, but from what i have read it seems to help some. Personally, i have only had about 10% of my Kodachromes have issue with ICE and these spanned 1950-1990 production r...

Re: HDRi

Depending on how well the Kodachrome was processed and if it was underexposed, you may have some issues with the infrared dust detection for the same reason. Consider wet mounting for the CS9000 - it can minimize the dust and scratch issue for both B&W and Kodachrome. google wet mounting cs9000 ...

Re: Coolscan 4000 ED settings to archive

For an 11 x 14 print you need about 3300 pixels by 4200 pixels. Most printers will use about 300 ppi as input. 35 mm is roughly 1 inch on the short side, so i would scan at 4000 ppi resolution ( referred to as dpi on the window). For archive, use 100 % crop ( whole frame) unless you know you want to...

Re: Allow multisampling with ME

Understand.

What i am asking for is the software to allow the user to make that choice and decide if the additional scan time is appropriate for the image.

Re: Cleaning & remounting slides

What type of scanner are you using ? If flatbed, you may be able to wet mount on the bed. If it is a slide scanner, make sure the new mounts will be accepted by the scanner mechanism. i have heard some folks using wet mount with the Nikon CS9000, http://store.aztek.com/servlet/-strse-Scanner-Wet-Mou...

Re: Allow multisampling with ME

By overexposing the picture, the dark areas will be up to 4 times lighter reducing the possibility of electronic noise from happening. Sorry, but i believe this is not technically correct. The noise does not go away. The signal to noise ratio does change which makes the apparent noise level diminis...

Re: Disappointed with scan results

Unless you are scanning Kodachrome, it sounds like the Color Management System settings are not correct. Follow Ian's tutorials at the web site above.

Allow multisampling with ME

Using the Nikon CS5000 i am not able to run multisampling when MultiExposure is on ( did i miss a switch ?). Other than intermediate storage size ( which would only be a factor of 4X worst case, 2X for each exposure ) this restriction does not make sense to me. The purpose of MS is to reduce random ...

Re: Support for Coolscan 5000 ED and Windows 7

Will this be waiting for Nikon testing and updating the drivers or is this the point where the Mac source code will be used ?

Thanks

Re: Yellow and Blue bands when scanning / the banding bug

two sources that i have heard for the yellow edge band - light source getting old ( try shifting the film over to see if it goes away., make sure the lamp has been on for 15-20 minutes if CCF) , Dust in the optical path - most likely the calibration area under the edge of the scan bed plate, or poss...

Re: Multi-Sampling vs Multi-Exposure

Alejandro,

Are you saying that MultiExposure is using a "dark frame" technique to identify hot pixels in the CCD element ?
