Strange; does this affect only the file name (then you could simply rename it), or the Name stored in the icc profile itself? Then you can open it in a binary editor (or Emacs) and replace the corresponding underscores (just do not simply delete them, because this might corrupt the profile). I'll ha...

You might want to try NKLS4000LS40_N_14.icm. It's the profile for 14-bit color depth, I don't know if this will solve your problem, but I remember that it used to make a difference in my setup. On Mac OSX this should be located in /Library/Application Support/Nikon/Profiles/, but I don't know where ...

Hi, I see, that's a good point. Basically, all security issues are a matter of trust anyway, so granting an application (SF in this case) access to a trustworthy website is probably no more dangerous than visiting there yourself (or opening emails with 'LaserSoft' in the sender field). Then the only...

But be aware that the blue channel is usually the most noisy one; of course, there is no option if the other channels are unusable, but it might be good to keep that in mind.

You're right, that seems to be the trend with a lot of applications, but I personally just don't like all my applications accessing the internet on their own. Admittedly a little paranoid, but I prefer to be in control of that (well, at least believe to be in control...).

Some workflow improvements (auto-prescan, frame pos., TIFF)

Two ideas that have been going around in my mind for some time: 1. (Mostly for scanning slides:) An option to automatically do a prescan when SF is launched from PhotoShop: when scanning several slides from PS, I usually save the file, eject the slide, insert the next one into the scanner, launch SF...

I agree with the newsletter-related problems; just another very annoying side effect of spam. However, the idea with something like my.silverfast.com sounds great, that would at least be a great improvement (if properly maintained...)!

Thanks in advance,

DCE's features look useful, but this software is only for Windows:

SF updates

Hi, from my experience, keeping SilverFast up to date (i.e., always installing the newest updates) is very recommendable; therefore, it would be very helpful - to be able to see the most recent version in the downloads area without having to enter the serial number first; - to be notified of updates...

There used to be Panorama Tools by Prof. Dersch of the University of Applied Sciences Furtwangen, now continued at
http://panotools.sourceforge.net/

For the Mac, there is
http://www.kekus.com/
I didn't try yet, but it might be worth the investment.

Just to throw in my 2 cents, too: - I bought the Nikon LS4000 with SF 5.0 a couple of years ago (with a free update from Nikon immediately after buying, to 5.2 I think, but this was free anyway); I paid for 5.5 one year later, then for SF 6 again. This is fair, of course, after all I got more than w...

Gregory C seems right, I also get the impression that the problem has to do with the color cast of the image. It seems it can be worked around by deactivating auto exposure, doing a prescan, then reactivating auto exposure again (if needed). Probably deleting the preference file would also help, but...

Extremely slow scan speed

I am facing a similar problem: after switching to 2x multi sampling, and then back to 1x, my LS4000 takes extremely long for the prescan and the main scan; this happens only with the film strip holder (SA21, Ithink), there is no problem with the slide adapter so far. I already deinstalled and reinst...

This is also what the info text says in the preview window; however, the results are quite random in my experience :(
