Re: Topaz 2 and Silverfast Ai SLOW... help?

Dear justintech, there is a simple explanation -> 24 vs. 48 Bit Color. When using LinoColor on a Topaz2 it uses the scanner in a kind of "Topaz1 Emulation", only working with 8 Bit per channel --> 24 Bit color. We use the Topaz2 to its full capacity and always do our scans and prescans in ...

Re: Shadows and colours in slide film - Nikon Scan v Silverfast

Dear Mr. Seidl, as i wrote in my last post --> the -20 <--> +20 in the PC version have an unknown definition as the range is defined by Nikon. One could measure and make an educated guess but it is not known if the values are even linear or logarithmic or ... The IT8 will not work with high values a...

Re: Shadows and colours in slide film - Nikon Scan v Silverfast

Dear Mr. Seidl, this thread was about the newly added Lamp Control for the NikonSF ( Mac OSX version ). In the OSX version the LampControl ranges from -50 to 200 which is meant as "percent". So a setting of 200% adds 200% lightness resulting in 300% lightness. This is not stricly linear as...

Re: HDRi iSRD Kodachrome Win 7/64 Coolscan V ED

Dear John, i am exactly NOT trying to fool users, i am trying to be honest and to explain why it might look that we are fooling users. No one expects you to buy now in the hope of beeing able to upgrade to a version you REALLY want later. The version you CAN buy now does what it promises and it does...

Re: HDRi iSRD Kodachrome Win 7/64 Coolscan V ED

Dear all, please let me restate the facts from the Development view. Although my colleagues stated the facts correctly i may can put it in a different perspective. ( and may not 8) ): -In the beginning of Nikon support we adressed all Nikon scanners native on both Mac & PC -Then Nikon invented t...

Re: Shadows and colours in slide film - Nikon Scan v Silverfast

Dear Toby, from this photo it is a bit hard to judge what's going on... Could you try to simply scan a HDR 48 Bit image to harddisk, then opening it in a 48 Bit capable Software ( e.g. SF HDR, Photoshop, irfanview, ... ) then apply a very strong gamma like 4.0 ... Even if the image should look awful...

Re: Epson Perfection 3200 Photo / Win7(64)

Dear Bernd, wow, this is a quite interesting fact and as you probably suspected the older version did not "know" W7-64 and the fact that it runs fine is merely a side effect :-) When we have the time to look at the W7-64 Problem for the 3200 this will probably help to speed up the work ! W...

Re: LS-5000 iSRD and HDRi support for Windows

Dear all, this does not really change the situation on the PC ! On Mac we also supported the Nikon scanners directly like the Software you mentioned. For PC we still rely on the MAID Library and that version does not allow *us* to save the IR Data. And this is valid for every Software using MAID, ot...

Re: Support for Minolta Dimage Scan IV

Dear rwelch, unluckily in the Minolta case we had to work with their drivers and they did not bother to update them to Snow Leopard... So the only chance would be to directly drive the scanner and to completely rewrite the Minolta code in SilverFast. We are hearing you but we need to get the idea th...

Re: Saved Gradation Curves (LS-8000)

Dear Jim,
you are perfectly right, this is a problem !
As you observed correctly all sorts of Preferences are bound to the film format !
I do not know of a "clean" workaround, i willput this request up as a feature request !

Dear jackbaty,
lets first try for the easy solutions :-)

Did you choose 6x6 as Film Format in the selection ? The Default is 6x4,5 if i recall it correctly !

Re: Preview-Scans and the Job Manager, SF Ai 6.6.1r1c

Dear Patrick, the resolution in which the overview thambnails are scanned is way too small to fill the preview window with non-interpolated data, so we cannot simply use those images for the preview. On the other hand, if we do the thumbnail scans in a much higher resolution in order to cache them f...

Re: Problem with silverfast / 8800F (Mac)

Dear Marnicq, i do not want to offend you, but your problem sounds like something i sometimes do -> I forget to remove the white cover before scanning transparencies and so the scanner stalls trying to calibrate its lamp. That would be an easy solution, did you check that ? best regards, Nils Heidorn

Re: Best way of adjusting images in SF with Histogram ??

Dear Hassiman,
auto already tries to do si in an automatic way, if you do not like the result either change the way the automatic mode behaves or set the b/w point manually.
It actually doesn't matter what you do first as we always have the original image in back storage !

Re: IT8 Profiling question

Dear hassiman,
yes, that would be safe to assume !
For LED and even for cold cathod lamps its okay to re-calibrate only twice a year, normally things won't change noticably, so its most likely more a "check" then really getting new data...

best regards,
Nils Heidorn
