Re: scanning at 4800dpi - software crash

Hello, I realize this post is old and you have likely moved on by now, but I thought I'd share anyway. Something to keep in mind I a Win32 environment is that APPS only use a maximum of 2GB of RAM. Windows will use more, but not the APPS. This was one of the limitations addressed with Win64. Ciao fo...

Re: Workflow for processing HDR scans in Photoshop

Hello John,

That sounds interesting! Have you tried using Adobe ACR? What made you try Photoshop Vs. using HDR Studio in the first place if you don't mind my asking?

Re: Best way to remove artifacts left by iSRD

Hello Al, To my knowledge there is currently no secret one click solution for this type of damage. Take a look at the individual color channels in Photoshop to see if the damage exists more in one color. If there is a color channel that doesn't have damage you might be able to use that channel to re...

Re: HDR workflow using Photoshop

Hello John,

Why do you want to change to sRGB? I would suggest keeping it at Prophoto RGB or Adobe RGB and only convert derivatives to sRGB as needed. Is your display colour corrected?

Re: Which OS is better, 32 or 64bit?

Hello Antonio, I'm a user like you and haven't done any side by side comparison, but logic dictates 64-bit would be the way to go if your new computer has a 64-bit operating system. For one thing 32-bit applications had a 2GB memory usage limitation and I can tell you that on a number of occasions I...

Re: Post-Editing Options for HDR Output

I opened file in PS (CS4) made sure it's using Scanner profile (PS by default is using embedded profile). I saved it to other tiff file keeping same scanner color profile.. Did you open the files directly into PS or into Camera RAW (CR)? CR allows you to make non-destructive edits and allows you to...

Re: Scanning of painting originals: SilverFast + Epson V500

Dear Michelle, If you decide to use a scanner please note the entire bed of an Epson scanner is usable when scanning a reflective image. In my experience the registration is only an issue when scanning transparencies. Yes, Rag is addressing the very same topic. I must say I do not completely agree ...

Re: Scanning of painting originals: SilverFast + Epson V500

Hello Michelle, As a less expensive option you might try using a Digital Camera with appropriate lens and lighting to capture your paintings. This will allow you to capture the entire picture at one time in Camera RAW which you may then save as TIFF and process in SilverFast Studio in the same fashi...

As an alternative one could use Job manager to apply the settings to all images in a job.

Re: Auto Save

My pleasure! If you still do not see the option you may have installed the TWAIN version of SilverFast Vs the PS plug-in version. If that is the case un-install SF, and then download and install the plug-in version. The only reason to use the TWAIN version is to make SF available in other programs. ...

Re: neg scan order on a 4990

Perry, The version you have sorts left -> right -> top to bottom. Wait until you have done all of your adjustment and then click on the sort button because each time you click on a frame it changes the sort order making the frame you click on number 1. If you click the sort button first and then dec...

Re: Post-Editing Options for HDR Output

Thank you RAG. I think the clouds are parting a bit. However, I am a still a little unclear on one point. I was wondering if HDR was a proprietary format like NEF, for example. Hence my question whether ACR could open it, after which you would make your global adjustments in say, Lightroom, and the...

Re: Post-Editing Options for HDR Output

Hello Briank, I was reading this thread and wanted to respond to your questions. The 48 bit HDR (High Dynamic Range) scan is effectively raw data captured from your scanner (In the case of a negative it does not produce an un-inverted image). (1) The file format options are TIFF, JPEG, or JPEG 2000 ...

As a starting point make sure you are using the latest version of SilverFast. Once you have done that I would suggest using the LaserSoft Support quality issue contact form located at

I suspect as people read your question you will get recommendations for a number of products that allow you to keep track of your images (Digital Asset Managers) along with a number of programs for creating slide shows. I recommend downloading a demo version of Adobe Lightroom. There are enough free...
