Re: Scanned 35 mm film look too sharp and crispy

Yes, the Nikons are known for extracting most of the detail from film and enhancing dust and dirt as well. Not as good as a Drum scanner, of course. The LED light source creates a harder look than the CCFl bulbs used with other consumer scanners. Of course, pushing film increases the effect as well....

Re: Archiving Negatives

Dear jhelton, The CS-4000 can resolve about 2700 ppi maximum. Unless you are having aliasing issues with film grain, oversampling by scanning at 4000 ppi only costs storage space and a little time. Down sampling is generally a better idea than up sampling for the impact on image quality. If you scan...

Re: Epson V700 Silverfast Ai 8 Studio Over Exposed Scans

Use a black microfiber cloth or possibly a back felt or velvet cloth. Cover the complete area around the stamp. Place the stamp in the center of the scanner area and cover the entire platen with the cloth to eliminate stray light. You may have to try several different fabrics to see which fully abso...

Re: Image Quality

A couple things to locate the issue: Use epson scan to see if the error repeats. Do you see the same issue on reflective scans ? Is the band always in the exact same location (at the pixel level) ? It appears the gain is elevated for a few bands of pixels - Check the calibration area (under the case...

Re: Dark bands across scans

Do the bands align with the movement of the scan head ?
i noticed the image is reversed. Any chance that it matters if the film is emulsion side up or down ?

Re: SlideFIX ?

Dear Benpearl, Kodachrome used a completely different dye set from the other slide film types all of which were very similar E6 type dye sets. The dyes affect how the CCD or CMOS sensor sees the light source in the scanner. Once that "seeing" has been profiled, it can be used across any of...

Re: Scanning at 8000dpi

What you are probably seeing is aliasing generated by scanning past the nyquist frequency of the optical system and the image itself on the film. The 5000, in my experience, can only resolve about 3300-3500 ppi. Anything above that is "made up" information. It can give the appearance of a ...

upgrade

Currently at 6.x on Ai Studio and HDR Studio for CS5000
Will not upgrade to 8.x since multi-sampling is not included.

Would like to upgrade to 6.6.x . Web site does not seem to allow.

Any options ?

Thank you for your kind assistance.

Re: Opinions about photo needed: slide scan

Was there any detail in the blacks and the highlights (mostly building walls) on the original ? Check the Black and White point settings.
You might try to expand the dynamic range with Multi Exposure if available for your scanner or use Photoshop manually.

Re: Newton Rings

you can try some anti-newton glass in the holder -

If you are in the US -

The above are very experienced. One note- order two, the glass is extremely fragile.
