Thanks, Eckart. I have been using Silverfast for several years and never thought to do this! I am going to try running more than one version and do some comparison tests. Great tip!

Great job, Pfanni; thanks for pointing me to that link. rtway 's post reminded me of that issue with USB 1.1. He states: "Problem appears to have been due to an older USB hub (1.1). Once disconnected it worked fine. (Just use the newer USB 2.0 hub now)." I remember having that same problem...

Hi Pfanni, Have you tried deleting the Silverfast prefs? That's standard operating procedure when one runs into a quirk with the program. RAG has helped many people on the forums here and this is a quote from one of his previous posts: "A: Solution: It often helps to reset SilverFast's settings...

Hi Ellis, I wonder if you're allocating too much RAM to Photoshop. Sometimes this can cause O/S instability (especially when performing RAM instensive tasks like scanning). Have you tried lowering the RAM setting in Photoshop? I would knock it down to 50%... it's generally unecessary to set Photosho...

Hi Harry, Even though it seems unnecessary when dealing with black and white images, you should always opt to scan in color. Scanning in color gives you more image data to work with and that's always a good thing. :) Here is something you might find interesting: http://www.largeformatphotography.inf...

Hi ashok, Nikon and Minolta are two brands you might want to investigate. Since this forum is devoted to Silverfast products, you probably will get more opinions on film scanners at photo-related sites like dpreview, photo.net, fredmiranda, luminous-landscape, and popphoto. http://photo-i.co.uk/Revi...

Hi Andy, Pardon me if I sound crabby, but could you please refrain from using the funny spellings of 'Windows'. I realize it's amusing to some folks to call Microsoft Windows "Windoze" and "Winblows", "Wind**ws", etc, but please realize that when you are posting to a public forum for help, other use...

I must say that I'm not very happy with this latest version of Silverfast either. Descreening is unacceptably slow; in fact, it starts, then completely hangs after about five minutes on my system. (It does not matter if I use the Silverfast launcher or the Photoshop plugin). Normal reflective scans ...
