VEry simple, actually. Not changing the variables is exactly the idea behind multi-sampling. The noise is random, so it changes all the times, meaning that two otherwizes identical reading would be different only by the noise, making it easier to identify what is noise and what is not noise.

Thanks all for great help! I have installed 1.7. The scanner seems faster now. I am not sure the 3 colour channels are ientical yet but at least the scanner is now usable

I am really curious to witness the colour registration problem being solved. If it is the case maybe my 4990 will be used only for contact sheets, as I originaly intended.

Does anybody know where to find it ? I have just looked aver all the Microtek sites and can't find a trace of it.

It would be great to be able to tell Silverfast which colour channel to use for B&W scanning. It is possible for preview, but not for the actual scan.

On my Epson 4990, the green channel is much sharper than the other two, so this would result in sharper scans.

It might be worthwhile to know that I successfully use both a Microtek 120tf and an Epson 4990 on my firewire bus with SilverFast. Regarding spacing and exact locations of frames on a film strip with Silverfast, what I do is that I select a scan size larger than the actual frames and make a selection in the preview...

Well, I don't give up anymore. I have recently received an email from LaserSoft support saying they have corrected some issues. I'll try when I return from my current trip.

Scanwizard 7.1.5 allos it. That version has also corrected all the problems I was having with the others. When I'll be back home, I'll try the latest Silverfast release to see what the status is.

Apparently there has been an email communication problem and the bug should now be fixed. I wll try next month when I'm back at home.

The only problem is that Silverfast does not memorize the frame offsets properly. I reported that problem, what, 2 months ago to support? Never had an answer.
