Effective noise reduction with Multi-Sampling
When using Multi-Sampling in SilverFast for scanning color negatives , how many samples should I use to get an effective reduction of noise? Is 2 enough? Or is it better to use 4? What about 8 or 16 samples, is that too much and unnecessary? Or does the answer depend on the amount of noise in the sc...

Re: Agfa Vista profiles in NegaFix
Hi, I think from now on I will only buy and use negative films which have correct profiles in NegaFix - just to make things easier for myself. Manually adjusting NegaFix profiles is too much for me. So for example I will use Fuji Pro 400H instead of the new Kodak Portra 400. And for ISO 800, Kodak P...

Re: General question: film type and sensitivity
Hello,
Very interesting, thank you for the information.
So it is only for economic reasons and not because of a limitation
in the chemistry of slide film, like I thought.
I learn something new here every day.

Re: Problem with ME-function
Hi, Ok, thanks for the information. So would you recommend to always turn off Multi-Exposure when scanning negatives with my Plustek OpticFilm 7600i scanner? So far I always used Multi-Exposure when I scanned negatives and I never got any strange color problems. Usually the only problem I have with ...

Re: Problem with scans of positives: too dark
Hello, I will show an example from a scan of a photo made on Fuji Provia 400X slide film. Both scans were made with Multi-Exposure , 3600dpi and 48-bit color (not HDR) and originally saved in uncompressed 48-bit TIFF format and then resized to 1280x868 resolution and compressed as 24-bit JPEG with 1...

Re: Problem with scans of positives: too dark
Hi, Thanks for the advice. But then the question is: why do I not have this problem of dark scans when scanning negatives? Why only with positives? When I scan negatives I leave the gamma gradation at 2.20 and most scans look good. But when I scan positives even with the gamma gradation on 2.80, my ...

Agfa Vista profiles in NegaFix
The profiles for Agfa Vista negative films in NegaFix, are they made for the new Agfa Vista Plus series of film manufactured by Fuji, or the old original Agfa Vista manufactured by Agfa itself? I do not see any profiles in NegaFix for "Agfa Vista Plus", so I am wondering if the "Agfa ...

Re: Opinions about photo needed: slide scan
Was there any detail in the blacks and the highlights (mostly building walls) on the original ? Check the Black and White point settings. You might try to expand the dynamic range with Multi Exposure if available for your scanner or use Photoshop manually. Yes, there were more details in the origin...

Opinions about photo needed: slide scan
Hello, I was wondering if I could share this photo with the forum and receive some opinions about the scan quality and color neutrality. I used the standard Kodak IT8 calibration target that came with my scanner. Camera: Nikon F80 Lens: Nikon 24mm f/2.8 D prime lens Shutter speed: 1/180 s Aperture: ...

Re: Problem with ME-function
The NegaFix profiles were not created to work with Multi-Exposure. Cheers But this is a contradiction to what is written on the SilverFast website at: http://www.silverfast.com/highlights/multi-exposure/en.html There it says: "Multi-Exposure® is one of the most popular SilverFast features. Exp...

Re: General question: film type and sensitivity
I am very sorry, but I think there is a complete misunderstanding. This question had nothing to do with NegaFix or SilverFast. I will try again: I am asking a general question about slide film and why they are only available in ISO 100, 200 and 400 sensitivities. Fuji and Kodak do not have any ISO 8...

Re: Will Fuji Provia IT8 calibration work scanning Velvia?
Hi there, So there is no advantage (and no reason) to buy a Fuji IT8 target for scanning Fuji slide film? The prices to produce the Fuji targets are much more expensive than those of Kodak (The raw materials are more expensive). Cheers Sorry, that was not my question. I will try to ask again: You s...

Re: Problem with scans of positives: too dark
Please make sure you have not accidentially set the scantype to 48bit HDR. That is a raw image format which uses a gamma value of 1.0. I made sure. The scan type is normal "48 Bit Color", not HDR, so that is not the problem. Also did you use the image automatic or set the highlights/shado...

General question: film type and sensitivity
Is there a reason why positive film (slide film) is only available in sensitivities from ISO 100 to ISO 400? Highest ISO film for positives is Fuji's Provia 400X. For negatives there is ISO 800 and ISO 1600 film. But no ISO 800 or ISO 1600 slide film. Is this a technical limitation in the chemistry ...

Re: Increasing brightness: gamma & exposure
a) The higher the gamma value the smaller the amount of shades. In other words by increasing the gamma gradation you are reducing the amount of image information, hence less details. I discourage you from doing this... Hello, The problem I have (I made another post to ask about it but it has not be...
