SF-210 and Nikon Coolscan 4000ED
Hi, I have recently aquired an SF-210 automatic slide feeder, which works great in SilverFast 6.6.2 in batch (file) scanning mode; the only catch is that the software hangs after the last slide (i.e. at the end of the batch). I am pretty sure that there was a dialog asking for something like "m...

Hi, yes, I've read that post. I have a similar problem with my LS-4000, but on the 8000 it is different; there are no freezes, all hardware works basically, but the way SF works is just weird (slow, inconsistent, ICC problems?). Hard to put into clear words :-), but I'll try as soon as I get to my n...

Question regarding Nikon LS-8000 on OSX
Is there anyone working successfully with SilverFast for the Nikon LS-8000 in Mac OS X 10.4? I downloaded the trial version of SF 6.5.1r2, but honestly I am rather disappointed. Things working fluently with my LS-4000 seem to be rather half-baked with the LS-8000 (i.e. slow adjustments, inconsistent...

Hi, I cannot offer a solution, just confirm that it seems to be a problem with Intel Macs. (I reported something similar in another thread some time ago, <http://www.silverfast.com/forum/ejecting-film-strip-from-sa-21-t4610.html>) I never received an answer to the support request I submitted, but if...

Ejecting film strip from SA-21
Hi, I've got a problem: when I eject the film strip from the SA-21 film strip holder, SF keeps ejecting (the eject button stays gray, and everytime it thinks it's done, the scanner starts ejecting again). This can only be stopped by force-quitting PhotoShop, which is a little annoying. Has anybody e...

As far as I understand, the gamma gradation corresponds to the scanner's gamma, i.e. the way the scanner's sensors interpret brightness values. This has nothing to do with the other links in the color management chain (like PhotoShop). There was a good article on that on Ian Lyons' site: http://www....

Nitrofunk, sorry, it took me some time to play around with the NegaFix settings; the best choice I found was (as RAG suggested) to select Other/Other and then fine-tune the results by overriding "Auto" adjustment and moving adjusting the sliders in the histogram (you have to activate Expert mode by ...

Ok, I just did some research and found out that this Neg:direct mode is probably only available only for Nikon scanners (which I have). Sorry for pointing you in the wrong direction. So the only option is to adjust the Negafix profiles; it should be possible to create a completely neutral profile, a...

In the main dialog window (where you can adjust the resolution settings, color depth, etc.) there is a row of tabs immediately below the tools palette (where you see the magnifier glass, the auto-adjust button, etc.). The first says "General", the second is "Frame". By default, "Frame" is active, bu...

Hi, this might be too trivial for your purposes, but did you try to choose, e.g., 16bit Grayscale as output format? I guess it won't be possible to get more neutral images... Regarding Negafix: I have a different scanner, but in my case turning Negafix off is simply achieved by selecting "Neg:direct...

You mean a kind of rotation tool? I have been thinking about that, too, the problem is that rotating a digital image is rather problematic regarding loss of quality. I guess the best way so far is to scan at high or maximum resolution (in order to obtain the maximum possible information) and then do...

I had no success installing the profiles (any Nikon profile!) in Windows, no idea why. However, if I understand it correctly, checking the HDR box only causes the gamma value to be applied in an HDR scan (which is what you do then, scanning raw data without the possibility to use the image manipulat...
