Single best SF enhancement
I have been using SilverFast Ai Studio with my Nikon CoolScan V since 2005, first as a Photoshop plugin and later as a standalone program in conjunction with SF HDR (Archive Suite). I am a huge fan of the Archive Suite, but have always found that the biggest stumbling block in working with this incr...

Optimum scan resolution for Cool Scan V ED
I have the Cool Scan V and have always scanned at 4000 ppi, which is supposed to be the actual optical resolution of the scanner. I create archival iHDR files with final adjustments made in SF HDR. Is this the optimal setting for archiving from this scanner or are other factors such as optimal sharp...

No Printer Calibration with film scanners
My initial excitement with the new printer calibration feature in SF 6.6.0 quickly turned to disappointment when the documentation revealed it would not work with film scanners. Although I do own a decent Epson flat bed scanner, I do not have a licensed copy of SilverFast for it, nor do I plan to pu...

I'm bumping my previous post to report that since installing Silverfast Ai Studio on a 2.2 GHz Core2 Duo MacBook Pro running OS 10.5.2, I am getting perfect scan functioning with my Cool Scan V ED with none of the previous issues. Scanning on the G5 tower with the same OS is still dysfunctional. How...

Sonny, Thanks for your reply. You are correct, your web site currently reflects the extent of SilverFast's effective Leopard compatibility as it relates to individual scanners. When the new SF Ai software was first released, I did not see this link. Let's all hope that either Nikon or LaserSoft find...

Nikon & OS 10.5
I have already reported this to SF tech support but am posting here for the benefit of others. My Nikon Cool Scan V does NOT run properly in the current version of SilverFast Ai installed in Leopard, in spite of LaserSoft's claim of Leopard compatibility. Specifically, scans are very slow, with freq...

Using OS 10.4.x on a G5 with a Nikon LS-50, I have periodically also had problems with SF not seeing the scanner. This is always resolved by some combination of hard booting the scanner, restarting the Mac, and deleting the SF preferences by holding down shift-option-SF while starting in stand-alone...

The RGB setting for Internal -> Output which you stumbled on appears to be the correct one in your case. While ICM may seem logical, RGB is usually recommended when bringing a profile-adjusted scan into Photoshop. When scanning with the SF PS plug-in, I also set my Internal -> Monitor to Automatic a...

Murphy's Law at work: After my detailed post of a work-around above, LaserSoft releases an new update the same day that appears to solve the IT8 problem. Hope 6.5.0r8 works as well for you as it has for me. Auto calibration is quick and simple now. Funny that they didn't document this in the version...

Automatic IT8 calibration fixed!
The 6.5.0r8 update released today appears to fix the much-reported IT8 calibration problem, at least on my OS X install with a Nikon L 50. It works perfectly for me now in both stand-alone and plug-in modes. Moreover, it is faster than ever. I hope this works for all across the board. This update al...

Can't help you with the ME problem. This was supposedly fixed when SF ME cut back from 4X to 2X ME. I personally never had problems with either. Are you using the latest version of SF? I have discovered a work-around for the IT8 problem which is indeed a mess for many people. The work-around process...

pike105, After doing some further experimenting, I went back and edited my last post in reference to NegaFix, reflecting mixed results. Apologies if this has created any confusion. Most of my scan experience is with slides, so I am much less knowledgeable hands-on with negatives and issues unique to...

Re: Version 0r6 even worse
Do these people at Lasersoft ever test their software before putting it into the market? Probably not. I love SilverFast. After working in frustration with a number of different scan programs a couple of years ago, I finally tried SF in conjunction with an E6 IT8 target on my Nikon LS 50, and achie...

Nudge for frame border
The red frame border should be nudgeable via the arrow keys for quick repositioning. And please give us a way to turn the constant blinking off!
Thanks!
