Am I the only one with this new scanner? I am using it under both Win2000 and WinXP pro (on the same machine with dual boot setup). Sometimes on pressing the pressing the preview button (for thumbnails) I get an error saying "Cannot start scanner". However, on pressing the prescan button, I am able to get a prescan.
I am also getting an error when trying to preview saying "cannot send gradation tables to scanner". I then have to delete all the preview data, or close Silverfast and Photoshop and relaunch the programs again.
I am using Ai 5.5.2, Photoshop 6, AMD Athlon 1.1Ghz, with 768M RAM. The above errors come up in both Win2K and XP

I am using the new Sprintscan 4000 plus which has only a firewire interface. I have installed the latest polasight upgrade v5.5 but I use only the Silverfast interface as polasight does not recognize the scanner in Win XP.
Strangely, the silverfast also creates some problems under XP. It works best under Win2K but even there, as mentioned in my original post, I get a "cannot send calibration tables" error or "cannot start scanner" error after clicking on the Preview button. Closing photoshop and restarting it seems to correct the problem, or sometimes the scanner still scans the image even though it has come up with the "cannot start scanner" error.
All in all, I can still use the scanner with silverfast as needed, except for the above glitches. The scans are simply awesome! Now if only there was an easy way to remove all the dirt and scratches.....
