Sprintscan 120 frame offset for medium format holders

Postby Seth Friedman » Wed Jan 29, 2003 2:53 pm

Hello Silverfast,

Is there any chance of adding offsets for the medium format holder(s) so that we can easily scan film with spacing issues? Better yet, allowing a prescan of the full bed would be wonderful, even though full scans are limited to 6x9. Insight allows this although it is lacking in all other areas when compared to your software.

Thanks,

Seth

I asked for that feature 18 months back - it should be close to the top of the "To Do" list by now if hasn't been tossed in the "too good and idea" bin - Come on guys liven up and provide the Polaroid user with something useful - the Nikon whiners have been getting it all their own way for too long :)

Most medium format cameras have somwhat irregular spacing between frames. Silverfast/P120 assumes even spacing corresponding to the grid laid out on the film holder. In all my medium format scans, the first frame lines up with the grid, but the second and subsequent frames do not match, cutting the frames in two in the view window. I try to use the various frame sizes to get around this inflexible approach. 6x9 often works for 6x4.5 and 6x6 to get a frame centered.

Having to do this is a major disruption to my workflow however, because it is so unpredictable. It may take me an hour to properly frame and scan one strip of 4 frames (6x4.5) For a product that is so concerned about proper workflow, this is a major flaw.

We know from using Polacolor Insight that the view window scans the entire strip and allows flexible framing under control of the user. This is much prefered, is intuitive and easily understood by the user.

For a product that allows for such extensive controls in almost all other areas, why does silverfast insist upon limiting user control in this area? It makes almost all the other benefits of this otherwise fine program much less useful.

This issue has been on the table for almost two years. I would like to continue to use the product but cannot, because of workflow innefficiencies if this issue is not addressed in the near future.

Dave Anderson
