Polaroid Sprint Scan 45

I own a Polaroid Sprint Scan 45 (not the plus or the Ultra) scanner and have never been satisfied with its results. It has a funny resolution (4000 x 2000 dpi). I find that scanning at 4000 dpi is mushy because the scanner interprets every other pixel on the horizontal plain of the scanner. Scanning at 2000 dpi I don't get the color fidelity that I want. The Polar Software that came with the scanner allows for a grater D-Max if I throw away all scanning
adjustments.

I was thinking of trying SilverFast, but the supported scanner is a Polaroid Sprint Scan Ultra. Has anyone used the SilverFast software, and can I use it on my scanner even thought they specified the Ultra
model?
