Incrementing the Image Number in Batch Scan

Instead of scanning slides into Photoshop I send them directly to file by selecting Scan Mode: Batch Mode (file) and Original: Transparency on the General tab.
On the Frame tab I specify a prefix of "OP_" in the Name text box. When I click Scan Batch button the "Save As..." dialogue box is displayed with "Batch Pict" in the File Name text box. The Counter "Reset for every batch scan" is unchecked and the slide counter is displayed in the "Start with number" text box.
While the file is being scanned a temporary file by the name of "Batch Pict0000" is created in the directory the files are saved to. When the scan is complete the file is renamed to "OP_" (the earlier version would rename the file to OP_0081 for example).
I need to prescan each slide as most are technical slides and generally need some correction.
I have been using the procedure above for over 1500 slides with version 5 of SF. However after I upgraded my software last night I now have to physically rename each file I scan.
Operating System: Win2K service pack 1

Please use the following work flow (which is easier to perform than it seemes from my long description that follows now):
(1) Select your preferred file name prefix "OP_" as you already did.
(2) Choose Scan Mode: "Batch Mode (file)" (as you already did), but do NOT change to Original: "Transparency" - leave it instead as "document feeder" (SilverFast chooses this automatically for you every time you switch to a "Batch" Scan Mode).
(3) Open the overview dialog in SilverFast (perform the thumbnail scans if you like and if you have changed your slides/film strip) and double click on the image you would like to work with next.
SilverFast automatically performs a preview scan of that image for you.
(4) Make your adjustments in the Frame tab and elsewhere in SilverFast.
(5) Press the Scan button (which now reads "Scan Batch") to initiate the final scan of your image.
Note: In the "Save As ..." dialog box that comes up, you will see "OP_.tif" as your preferred image prefix name you specified in step (1), no need to change it.
(6a) Please make sure that the Checkbox "Reset for every batch scan" in unchecked (you need to do this only once for the first scan you make).
(6b) You may also adjust the index like 0087 that later will be added internally by SilverFast, here, but you do not need to change it, if you want succeeding indices in your image file names.
(7) Choose "OK" in the "Save As ..." dialog box, to actually start the scan. You will find a new image file on your hard disk called "OP_0087.tif".
Note: Because you selected 1 image in step (3), and not an image range (like 2,..,4), your Batch Scan will effectively scan the one image you selected, only.
(8) Please continue with step (3) to select the next image you would like to work with.
