Scanned negatives are reversed
I am in the middle of scanning thousands of negatives and fear that I am doing something wrong. I have a Plustek OpticFilm Scanner 8200i Ai Negative Film Scanner. I put the emulsion side of the negative downward on the tray as instructed. I know that putting it the correct way is very important for the quality of the scan. Now I am noticing that worded plaques on the walls are backwards which means that the photos will be backwards. Is that normal that every scan needs to be flipped in Photoshop?

Re: Scanned negatives are reversed
Dear Sumi,
The orientation depends on the way the film is inserted.
You can also flip the images in SilverFast,
You do not have to load them in Photoshop for this.
Look for the Rot/Flip "compass" icon at the left of the preview.
Kind regards,
Arne Ketelhohn.

Re: Scanned negatives are reversed
Hello, I wish to follow up on this discussion.
I have purchased a Plustek OpticFilm 8200 scanner and notice when I place a transparency in the film holder as per the instructions (emulsion face down and oriented correctly) the preview comes up backwards on my computer screen. I need to flip the image horizontally in SilverFast to see the image properly. It is not a problem for me to flip the image in SilverFast but it does seem strange that I will have to do this with every transparency and negative I scan if I stick to the correct procedure. Shouldn't it by default appear correct in the preview if positioned properly in the film mount? Am I missing something?
Thank you.

Dear user,
Yes, that depends on which end of the film you insert first.
Kind regards,
Arne
