Hi,
I recently bought a Plustek 8100 to scan all my old negs. I used to work in a motion picture film lab and used short ends of Kodak and Fuji stock in my stills camera (Kodak 5245, Fuji F500 etc). So I understand that my scans are not off standard stills film and will need a little tweaking.
OK here's the problem - I'll be scanning happily when all of a sudden the scanner will go MUCH slower and produce a result that is completely different to the prescan. I can tell now because of the difference in the time taken to scan, and if I cancel the scan, the scan button stays grey so I can't try again until I close silverfast and start it up again.
This pic shows the scan with the prescan in the background -
So 3 things -
1. scanner goes MUCH slower all of a sudden
2. scans are not matching prescan BY A LONG WAY
3. I have to close and restart silverlight after cancelling the scan because the scan button stays greyed out
Is this a bug? It's very annoying, can it please be fixed? Most of my scans are working fine but after about 5 or 6 frames it suddenly does this for no apparent reason.
Thanks,
Paul

Re: Plustek 8100 problems
Dear Paul,
This happens with an older driver and has been fixed by Plustek.
Please make sure you have the latest driver and the latest SilverFast update installed.
(On OSX the driver is included in SilverFast)
In case you have further issues I need to know which operating system you are using.
Kind regards,
Arne Ketelhohn.

Re: Plustek 8100 problems
Thank you Arne, I downloaded the driver and it seemed to fix the problem.. Unfortunately the scanner seems to have developed another problem - the scans are coming out with only part of the picture on the right hand side. I tried changing resolution and got inconsistent results. The amount of picture on the right side varied between scans. About one third of the time the scans were ok. Sometimes the left hand side of the frame is white, sometimes black. I think the scanner is going to be returned!

Dear Paul,
That seems to be an hardware issue.
I assume the holder is correctly inserted.
Are you on a Windows machine?
If so please test the scanner using the simpler Quickscan utility from Plustek.
kind regards,
Arne Ketelhohn.

Re: Plustek 8100 problems
Hello,
I am having a very similar problem with my new Plustek 8200i Ai:
At the moment I'm scanning T-Max 400 at 3,600ppi with minor adjustments to the Histogram and Light GANE.
Each scan takes about 30 seconds.
However, if I repeat the scan, then for no apparent reason the second scan takes much longer - around 3 minutes! - and the result is much darker than the prescan!
I've learned to cancel the scan if it sounds like it's going to be a 'longer' scan, and try again, but this glitch is seriously compromising my workflow.
I'm running Silverfast 8.2.0r3 on a Mac Pro 10.6.8
Can you help?

Many thanks,
Downloading the driver fixed this issue - even though I couldn't find any /Libary/Frameworks files to remove
Kind regards,
Gil-Martin

Re: Plustek 8100 problems
Hello everybody.
Sorry for hijacking a thread, but I have a VERY similar issue, but on a Windows machine. The final scans have a very distinct pink hue, not present in the preview of my SilverScan SE Plus.
I did download the latest (?) driver, OF8100-V5001_13L.zip (the page says version 5.0.0.1) and got it installed.
But the driver in use, when viewed trough the Windows device manager, has the grouped version number of only 4.0.0.0. Can anyone confirm that the right driver is in use?
Image attached is a screen shot, on the left the final scan; on the right, the preview. Scanned with the latest driver.

Re: Plustek 8100 problems
Dear customer,
Is the difference in the scan always the same?
Which version of SilverFast are you using?
In case you are using Multi-Exposure try activating the Multi-Exposure pre-view in the preferences' special tab.
In case the difference is fluctuating with different color hues in every scan you will have to contact Plustek about this.
Kind regards,
Arne Ketelhohn.

Hard to determine. It appears to be similar, always towards pink/purple. I tried to counter it by adding green and yellow to the preview, but the correct amount and direction is very difficult to estimate without a preview. The white and color balance are random from my point of view at this moment.
LSI_Ketelhohn wrote:Which version of SilverFast are you using?
I started with an older version that came with the scanner, but now I am using 8.2.0r3.

I did more testing, and the error in hue comes only (I'm not yet very sure) after enabling ME. Also, there might be an issue with alignment between the two scans. I must do more testing.

I have sent Plustek my question via their web service. But the hardware seems to work properly, as I can use "3rd party software" with good results, which also offers multiple exposure funtion.

Dear customer,
Did you activate the Multi-Exposure preview in the preferences?
For some films this is advisable.
Kind regards,
Arne Ketelhohn.

I am also having an issue similar to these.
I have the most recent version of OSX silverfast installed, but it is saying that my 8100 is not connected, even though it is..
