Driver update for dark slide issue

Postby glasskeyphoto » Fri Aug 09, 2013 9:45 pm

Hello,
I have been reading the forum posts about the dark slide scans with the Plustek 8200i. I am having the same issue. I attempted to fix the issue by getting the most recent updates, but I am uncertain if the driver is updating. The posts I have found are all based on the Mac OS. I am using Windows Vista Home, Service Pack 2. Any advice would be much appreciated.
Thank you,
Matt

Dear Matt,

For Windows the latest drivers can simply be downloaded from the Plustek website.

If you have any troubles installing it you can also contact the Plustek support.

kind regards,
Arne Ketelhohn.

Hi Arne,
Thanks for the reply. I did get the updated driver from Plustek. Unfortunately after installing it and the updated SilverFast 8, I am still having the same issue. I should mention that I have two other scanners installed. I was thinking of completely un-installing those scanners entirely but I am a little unsure about doing that with one of them. It is a Kodak RFS 3600 that I have been using with an older version of SilverFast. There were some issues with that install and I am hesitant to lose that scanner! Do you think there is a driver conflict or an issue of having two versions of SilverFast installed? I should also mention this is a Windows Vista machine. That's a whole different problem! HA HA.
Thanks,
Matt

I was able to get the driver but I am still having issues with dark slide scans. I have other scanners, one Epson and an old Kodak RFS 3600, the Kodak has SilverFast 6.6.2.r4a. I am guessing there is some type of conflict with the other scanners/drivers? I will completely uninstall the Epson but I am hesitant to do so on the Kodak since getting it to work with the SilverFast mentioned above was highly problematic. Any thoughts on this?

Dear Matt,

No, I would not expect this behavior to be caused by a driver conflict.

Have you tested the scanner with the manufacturer's QuickScan tool?

Did you contact Plustek about this?

kind regards,

I am going back and forth with Plustek support as well. I tried installing everything on a Mac as well, using the newest drivers and updated Silverfast, but the issue persists. Also, on the Windows machine I tried un-istalling SilverFast 8 and re-installing it. When I opened the fresh install the preview from the previous install was still showing up. Is there a more robust uinstall available? Obviously the included one is not doing the full job in this case.

Uninstalling the software does not delete the settings.

Locations for the SilverFast settings are described here:
https://www.silverfast.com/problemreport/en.html?filter=assistant&sub=delete_prefs_oldmethod
Deleting the entire LaserSoft Imaging folder (not only the Prefs) will also remove any previous previews.

kind regards,
Arne Ketelhohn.

I will try that, thank you. Unfortunately I have now lost the ability to use my other scanner (Kodak RFS 3600). SilverFast can no longer find it. This happened after installing SilverFast 8. Plustek had me send the 8200i scanner back to them. Now I have no ability to scan slides at all. I suppose I should ask about the other scanner on the proper forum, but it seems that this is all tied together. Considering how much trouble I had getting the Kodak to work with the older version of SilverFast, I am sort of at a loss as to what to do.

I have forwarded your post to our support center so I can help you better with your Kodak RFS 3600 issue.
