Hi
I use SilverFast AI (6.6.1ra) with Replecta RPS 7200 Professional to scan color films (on WinXP). First of all I would like to say that I find Silverfast AI an excellent program.
I'm creating this post because I have a question concerning my work flow.
I have been scanning film stripes (4 photos per stripe) using the job manager. The job manager contains 4 entries, one for each photo in the strip. After inserting the film strip into the feeder, I select and edit the first entry in the job manager. Then I make a pre-scan, set the Auto-tolerance in the Negafix window, adjust the colors and/or the exposure; When I'm happy with the settings for that photo I save them. After I repeat the previous steps for the remaining 3 entries in the job manager: pre-scan, negafix, color/exposure correction, save. When all 4 photos are done, I click the start button on the job manager and can go do something else for about 12 minutes. When all 4 scans are done, I eject the film, feed the next stripe, and start it all over again.
Now (I'm getting closer to my question:-) ), each time I pre-scan the first job of a stripe, the scanner performs a number of operations (measures the exposure time, prepare scan, warm-up lamp, calibrate, then pre-scan). That is, the pre-scan of the first photo always takes much longer (2.5 minutes) than the following "normal" pre-scans (about 35 sec).
Now, finally, the question: Is it normal that the first pre-scan of every stripe takes longer, or am I doing something wrong?
Since I'm scanning some 3'000 stripes (I've been on this for several months already and am only half way...), any time gain makes a difference.
Thanks for your answer - and happy new year!

Dear Casulu,
Happy new year to you too.
The first prescan always takes longer because it has to warm-up the lamp and calibrate it, hence the time required is much more than between images of the same stripe.
Cheers
