When I use the PIE software Cyberview, the scanner (PF1800u) does'nt make any special noise.
But when I use Silverfast SE v5.2 an horrible squeak appears each time at the start of the scanning.
What should I do to correct this ?
Thanks.

Dear Christophe,
here are the conditions for 35mm FilmScan on Windows:
- latest ASPI layer driver must be installed in Windows system (in ver. 4.6)
- Win98 must be "second edition"
- Windows system file "usbscan.sys" must be installed (search for name).
- these drivers must be installed: ASPI32u.dll and SSCMD32u.dll, SilverFast 5.2.0r09 or higher will install them.

I have the same impression - UMAX PL180 produces "knocs" (a bit horrible knocs, I must say) during initialization before preview/scan - may be it is correspond with activated autofocus feature. Work with CyberView is significantly more quiet (and, noise itself not a problem - but I am afraid that such "knocks" may damage scanner itself).
If you need something to compare - it looks like initial "knock" when Agfa Duoscan series switching from reflective to transparency mode and vise-versa.
Scanner is working, but you heart dissolve in bloody tears each time you hear that...
