Hi Again,
It's nearly ready! I tried the new version yesterday and, in terms of basic functionality, version 6 is almost back to the level of the late version 5's.
I'm using a PIE 1800u with Windowes 98SE and lots of memory.
However, using the twain driver the final scan is unusable as it bears no resemblance at all to the very impressive prescan image. The colors are totally washed out, with the RGB histogram completely skewed to the right and a particularly weak signal in the green channel. This is apparent also in the progressive thumbnail image produced by SilverFast when it performs the scan. Maybe it's significant that all of the PIE releases are actually the same file, with the suffix (AFL).
One other thing, when I take a screen capture of the prescan image and analyze it with Photopaint the red, green and blue histograms agree perfectly with the graphs in Silverfast. However, the composite RGB histograms are quite different. Given the apparent problems with the image transfer my guess is that the correct histogram is not the one produced by Silverfast.

ps, please don't tell me twain colors are unreliable and I should use the photoshop plugin.
