Lousy color neg scans

Postby aolsson » Wed Feb 05, 2003 6:28 pm

Whenevere I scan a color negative with silverfast the darker areas turn out to be extremely oversaturated in color. Almost like a neon glow. The images are unusable. To see a sample check my posting at Photo.net at url

http://www.photo.net/bboard/q-and-a-fet ... nified_p=1

Is there anything to do about this or should I simply scrap both the scanner and the Silverfast software?

Note when I scan with "Cyberview" this does not happen. But then I have to correct the colors a fair deal in photoshop elements instead.

Dear aolsson -
I agree, the scans are worse
Please let me know, which scanner, operating system and SilverFast version you use? We will help you as quick as possible.

with regards

The saturation in black areas was a problem with the first release of version 6. It's my guess that you are not using the latest release (d36 I think).
The blue/magenta cast is still an issue with negative scanning, particularly frames at the right hand end of a strip. Shifting the strip to the right can help, otherwise correct for it as much as possible in the imaging software that accesses the scanner.
As Christof said, it would help if you gave more information:
Silverfast version
Application software
Film type
Negative quality (exposure)
Did the preview image look OK
What corrections are applied

Dear aolsson,

I just looked at your file and I think you created it with Photoshop v4. If so, I suspect that Silverfast V6 is not compatable with this version of Photoshop. Maybe I'm wrong

The version was the problem!

Based on which download file I used i assume that I was on version 6.1.10.

I downloaded 6.1.28 and ergo the picture came out OK. Apparently there was a terrible problem with the older version that has now been fixed.

I am, once again, a happy camper.
