SCSI Powerlook use with Belkin USB-SCSI adapter

Postby john robinson » Sat Dec 14, 2002 3:28 pm

This Umax Powerlook 270 SCSI scanner seems to work via the SCSI PCI card using the Silverfast SFTWE-5.5.2r12(PL270).exe upgrade sortware download, but windows ME doesn't recognise this as appropriate software when the scanner is connected through the Belkin USB-SCSI adapter, even though it sees the adapter, which has installed correctly. It says in the Silverfast readme file that you have to install the "original driver" before installing Silverfast, if using "the USB- or firewire interface". I wonder if this applies to the use of my adapter, and what is meant by the "original driver"

The original software is the scanning software of the scanners manufacturer. This software installs the drivers for USB and Firewire scanners. The PL270 is a SCSI scanner and therefore no drivers are needed. The installation of SilverFast should be enough.

Please try to open the device manager and look for the PL270 (look for a string like "Acer Filmscanner"). If you can find the scanner there, then SilverFast should be able to work with that scanner.

Eric.
