2gb Limit on Files, Howtek

Postby mcfactor » Mon Feb 13, 2017 7:02 pm

Hi,

I have a Howtek 4500 with the demo version of Silverfast 6.6 running on a mac pro with os 10.4.

When I try to scan a 4x5 at 4000dpi it says that there is a 2gb limit on the file size. However, previous to this I was running the howtek off a G4 Quicksilver and an older version of Silverfast and had no such limit (the computer just died recently).

Before I pay money for this software, I would like to make sure I can scan files larger than 2gbs.

My questions are:

1. Is there a 2gb limit in the non-demo version?

2. If so, can I download an older version of Silverfast that does not have that limit (if so, which one?)?

Thanks

Dear user,

No, the demo does not have any special restrictions.

Restrictions are either device sided or based on the chosen file type.
Tiff for example has a maximum size of 4GB.

Also the device could have a limit. For example if this is 4GB it is for the 48 Bit data SilverFast obtains from it.
For example if you chose 48->24 Bit as the bit depth this would translate to a limit of 2GB, becausethe original 48Bit data is 4GB and the resulting 24Bit data is halve that size.

Kind regards,
Arne

Hi,

Thanks for responding. I understand what you are saying, but I do not understand why it would be happening.

I just plugged in my old harddrive (rescued from the G4) and ran the version of Silverfast that was on it- version 6.4.2r2a- and there was no pop up screen about a 2GB limit. It allowed me to scan up to 4GB. The issue is that I do not have the serial number for it.

Why would version 6.6 say there is a 2GB limit, yet version 6.4 not, on the exact same computer?

Is it possible for me to buy a serial number for version 6.4 from you?

Thanks,

Noah

Hi,

Sorry to continue to bug you, but I just found this old thread: all-other-problems-f31/the-image-is-too-big-t5066.html

In it, people talk about a 2gb limit that older Silverfast versions have. I wonder if I somehow downloaded a version with this limit? Would that be possible and if so, would you please guide me toward a version without that limit for a howtek d40000 and os 10.4?

Thanks,

Noah

Dear Noah,

No there never have been any changes regarding this. I do not know why the versions would behave differently.
And sorry I actually forgot about the fat32 limit in the older versions.

Kind regards,
Arne

Hi,

Thank you for your response.

Two final questions:

So, if I buy the program and still have the 2gb problem, would I be able to get a refund?

Can I buy a serial number for version 6.4?

Thanks,

Noah

Dear Noah,

We can send you a Version 6.4. Please contact our support about this.

Kind regards,
Arne
