Silverfast works under Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard

Hello,

I just want to let people know that Silverfast 6.6.1r1c works without any problem with my Epson Perfection 4990 scanner (connected via USB) under Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard. I have an INTEL based iMac 24" (Aluminium).
I tried batch scan with huge files...no problems !

After installing Snow Leopard and starting "SF Universal Launcher", the system displays a message that "Silverfast" needs "Rosetta" to work:
If you forget to install "Rosetta" from the "Optional Installs" Folder on the DVD it will download it automatically with
"Software Update"

I'm very happy since Snow Leopard is much faster than Leopard!

I found Silverfast 6.6.1r1c is faster then the 6.6.1r2 in the preview scan mode under Snow Leopard. I wonder why?

what excatly do you mean by faster ?

It could be that your prefs where corupted during the process of the upgrade so please try deleting the prefs and test it again.

I was wondering why ROSETTA is even necessary under Snow Leopard? Is there a version coming that doesn't require this?

With the current version of SilverFast we would still need Roseta but this should not affect your workflow.
The next major release of SilverFast will be completely Universal Binary please be patient until it is released.

Hi, that's great that you're developing a version that will not need Rosetta. Will that new version take advantage of multiple cores on the Mac? In Activity Monitor, it appears that SilverFast is only using one core. If I've misunderstood something about how SF works, please let us know if there's something we can do to get SF to use multi-cores (if it isn't already).

in some CPU intensive SilverFast features as iSRD we already use multiple cores.
So when using iSRD we do make use of all the 8Cores of a highend MacPro.

I just tried to download Silverfast Ai for my Epson 1680 (under an existing serial number) and only versions up to OS X 10.4 were available. Obviously this version cannot be 'seen' in Photoshop as it is too old.

Will Silverfast for this scanner be upgraded to work with 10.6 soon?

I think you tried to download an update for SilverFast Version 6, which is quite old and therefore does not have support for modern Operating Systems and Photoshop Versions. SilverFast 6.5 is a new major release which can be upgraded free of charge to SilverFast 6.6 which will work with SnowLeopard and Photoshop CS4 with Epson Expression 1680 / 1680 Pro / ES-2200 . Please try a Demo of SilverFast 6.6. for your Scanner to see the improvements.

Hi all,

I have seen in the above discussion that in 2009 there were plans to exclude the necessity of Rosetta for future releases of Silverfast. I have just tried the latest SE Plus version for my Epson V600 and it still requires Rosetta.
Can you please tell me if there still are plans to get rid of rosseta in the future?
