I have a somewhat recent version of Silverfast. If you need the exact version ask me, I don’t have it on me now. I have a iMAC desktop computer bought in 2013 running OSX Mountain Lion 10.8.4. I have an Epson Perfection 2450 Scanner. Concerning my iMac’s Time Machine which I use for most everything but photos. I was wondering about how Silverfast processes scans. Does it keep adding up prescan space in Silverfast for every scan I do? Then Time Machine would be adding up all that unnecessary data to my Time Machine External Hard Drive everytime I did scans and then did a Time Machine backup. I realize the scan, that is in the end, generated from Silverfast is probably more space… but I have a say over where that space goes. I wanted to know if the program Silverfast is amassing scan data for every scan it does, or does that information end up in the Mac’s Cache (Temporary files)? Then I would have to delete it there before the next Time Machine backup. (If this is so, what exactly should I delete?) Or should I just delete Silverfast from the Time Machine backups. This would work, but I would like the program to be represented in my Time Machine Ex Hd once so I could restore it if I had to. But that would work, I would just now put Silverfast on Time Machine’s Exclude List, because it has already been backed up. I am really not that fluent on all of this. I just know some basics of running Time Machine. I was just wondering about this. I thought you might have some information on this. Thank You for any help.
Thank You,
Jasper

Re: Silverfast Scan Data
Dear Jasper,
SilverFast keeps temporary files for the current preview and any zoom level you might be using.
These are replaced when you create a new preview.
The data is stored in the folder
/Users/[your userfolder]/Library/Preferences/LaserSoft Imaging/SilverFast 8/Previews/
Kind regards,
Arne

Re: Silverfast Scan Data
So I would be adding or subtracting a bit of space from the Silverfast program every time I backed up with Time Machine? Or just adding a bit more space on every time I backed up with Time Machine? So, excluding Silverfast from Time Machine would be the route to go? I really don't know how this works when it is a space change.
Thank You Very Much for your knowledge and help,

Thank You Very Much. I wanted to anticipate any gain in space for my Time Machine external hard drive! Thank You,
Jasper

Re: Silverfast Scan Data
Dear Jasper,
You are welcome. The folder should generally stay about the same size. It depends on the resolution you used for your scan and the zoom levels being use. There is no general gain in size other then the added logfiles.
Kind regards,
Arne.
