Silverfast on El Capitan
Is Silverfast 8.5 compatible with OS X 10.11 El Capitan?
I wonder because in May 2015 I updated to Silverfast 8.5.0r5. Some time about then I started running El Capitan beta releases. The current release of Silverfast is 8.5.0r8. I have not been offered updates since May. Could that be because the updates are not available for EL Capitan?

Re: Silverfast on El Capitan
Dear Mr Rich,
We also just have gotten the final version of OS X 10.11 and have began our testing.
Therefor we have not yet declared official SilverFast 8 support for this operating system.
There have bee several reports about USB devices not properly working under OS X 10.11.
We are currently examining these issues.
Kind regards,
Arne Ketelhohn.

Re: Silverfast on El Capitan
For info. I have installed OS X El Capitan on 5th October 2015 onto a mid 2009 MacBook Pro 17". Downloaded Silverfast SE 8 from website using OS X 10.10, i.e. Yosemite in drop down menu for the system I am using although actually using el capitan. Has worked fine. Scanner is an Epson 3200.
Hope this helps.

Hi,
Just to record that I too have the 'unknown error' using a Plustek 8200i with SE Plus 8.5.0r8 after upgrading to El Capitan. It prevents any form of scanning so I have rolled back to Yosemite. In the meantime I look forward to your update.
Best regards
Greg

Hi there!
I have also upgraded to El Capitan and since then every time I launch SilverFast 8 Ai Studio it opens the first screen and then closes. The hated "SilverFast unexpectedly quit" message appears every time I try to launch it. Frustrating!!!
I am using a Reflecta CrystalScan 7200
SilverFast version: 8.5.0r9)
OS X El Capitán 10.11

Re: Silverfast on El Capitan
Dear customer,
The drivers on your system probably could not be updated.
Please delete the Plustek****.framework files from the directory
/Library/Frameworks.
Then re-install the latest update again and restart your Mac.
Kind regards,
Arne Ketelhohn.

So far, so good: I've only scanned 5-6 slides so far, and no problems just yet (after reinstalling and after removing the old framework files)

All is good now: I've scanned dozens of slides with no problems whatsoever. Recommend following instructions above!

Re: Silverfast on El Capitan
I have the latest version of El Capitan and latest version of Silverfast ai with a Pluste 8200 ai. The usb connection frequently disconnects, especially when I am doing a prescan. It does not seem to happen when I do the actual scan. Plugging the usb out and back in and retrying the prescan works every time. Sometimes I can do two or three prescan/scan cycles, sometimes one, before I need to plug the usb cable out of and back into my computer (2009 Macbook Pro).
I hope that this specific info helps in figuring out what needs to be updated in the driver.

Re: Silverfast on El Capitan
Dear customer,
Have you tried different USB ports.
On some Mac Books the USB port(s) on one side is/are connected to an internal hub which also connects the internal iSight cam.
Do you have any other USB devices connected?
There for example are certain external hard drives which draw a lot of power from the USB bus.
Try disconnecting such devices if present.
Kind regards,
Arne Ketelhohn.

I have tried all each USB port of my Macbook Pro. There are no other USB devices attached. This NEVER happens on scans, just prescans. The software should be fixed to send the same USB port reset on prescans that it sends on scans.
I have OS 10.11.2 and version 8.5.0r8 of the Silverfast software.

Re: Silverfast on El Capitan
I finally installed El Cap 10.11.5 and now my Silverfast 8 won't run. It opens but then gives me this error when I try to connect to the scanner:
There was a problem starting your scanner.
Please make sure your drivers are installed correctly.
Exiting now...
I've installed the latest Epson drivers
I've uninstalled and reinstalled the latest version of Silverfast 8
I still get the same error. It will wake the scanner up when it first starts. It reads that the scanner is there. But eventually, the following pops up at the top of the screen:
SilverFast was not able to detect any scanner supported by your installed scan module.
Please make sure your scanner is connected and turned on.
When using USB make sure the scanner is connected directly.
Do not use an USB-hub or USB-extension.
Please make sure your scanner is shown correctly in the OSX profiler.
In case it is not present check the cable connection.
It detected it well enough to wake the scanner up and put the correct scanner type in the Image Source window below the message so the software sees it. So does OSX profiler. It sees it under USB 2.0

Re: Silverfast on El Capitan
Dear User,
We had several reports about some EPSON tools not closing correctly. These then block access to the scanner.
You can check and solve this through the OS X activity monitor's list of active tasks.
Applications -> Utilities -> Activity Monitor -> Memory tab
Look for active EPSON tasks especially the EPSON Scanner Monitor or EPSON Scanner Manager.
Mark and close them using the quit button above the task list.
Now SilverFast should be able to access the scanner.
Alternatively you can use the Epson uninstaller to remove the ICA (image capture) extension, and/or the Epson Scanner monitor from the system.
This uninstaller can be downloaded from:
http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/supp ... oid=187764
In case the uninstall does not remove the EPSON scanner monitor you can delete it manually from the directory
/Library/Application Support/
Kind regards,
Arne
