Ai 6.6.2r4a not working with 10.7...

Postby KR_Project » Wed Jul 20, 2011 9:44 pm

Well, stupid me, with some 35,000 Kodachromes to edit and scan after the edit, I trusted the blog that says Silverfast will be supported with Lion and installed it. Not only does it not work, it crashes on the Universal Launcher, my original install disks no longer work either as they are Power PC which is no longer supported.

Dead in the water here guys, what do we do now?

Sincerely,

Daniel Bayer, Creator / Director of the Kodachrome Project

Silverfast Ai IT8 doesn't work in Lion

Postby dcla » Thu Jul 21, 2011 6:57 am

SilverFast Ai IT8 Version 6.6 (Canon CanoScan 9000F) does not work in Lion. I tried deleting the old install, updating the canon drivers and re-installing Silverfast w/ no luck.

Anyone else having problems?

Hello everybody

We published yesterday an official statement on our website about our next software version SilverFast 8 as well as support and compatibility for Lion.

Answers to most of your questions related to this issue are found here:

So basically, everyone who upgraded to 10.7 Lion is screwed until the end of Aug when we will need to purchase an additional license (unless the original purchase was made after June 1st of this year) EVEN THOUGH there is clear messaging on the site stating that the current software has been tested with Lion???????

Time to look for an alternative solution to Silverfast.

There was a message that said so. I also understood, that Silverfast 6.6 was already sucessfully tested with Mac OS X Lion.
This message was an official statement at the silverfast website, found here: http://www.silverfast.com/show/lion/en.html

Meanwhile the message became edited at some time yesterday, now the words are VERY DIFFERENT.
Yesterday, when Lion came out, there was NO WORD about a new Silverfast Update needed.

When you type in "silverfast os x lion" in Google you still will find the original Title that was called: "SilverFast IS Lion compatibel (Mac OS X 10.7)", not "will be".
The title seems not have been changed, the whole message itself was!

Maybe someone made a screenshot of that old statement shown until yesterday.

Oh, I don't know Alejandro, how about the last paragraph on the latest Silverfast Blog post, dated July 20th?:

http://blog.silverfast.com/silverfast-8/

Users who want to work with SilverFast right now can take current version 6.6 without experiencing any disadvantages.

Don't you think some customers might read that to mean Silverfast 6.6 will work with Lion? That's how I read it.

The statement issued about having to pay for an upgrade is crap! LaserSoft website indicates compatibility to Lion. Therefore, I upgraded to Lion now to find out that a purchased upgrade is required? I think not! I bought my scanner back in March and this is just not right and not the way you treat clients. If you want to charge for an upgrade then you should not have put on your site that 6.6 is compatible. Not good.

HERE you can find the Original Statement from March 11th, 2011, that was edited yesterday evening by Lasersoft Imaging:

To me, this sais that silverfast will work fine with Lion when it was released!

Dear Semmelber,
dear tgphoto,
and dear Lion users (or future lion users),

Thanks for your links and contributions.

With all due respect, interpreting a text is a very different thing than actually reading the entire article as is.

All texts are open to interpretations at will, but it does not changes the facts.

As you can see, the very title of the article itself clearly states "SilverFast8" as well as the first paragraph.

Nowhere on our site has been mentioned that SilverFast 6.6 will (or is) compatible with Lion.

True, in fact the banner still says "SilverFast is compatible with Lion", however reading a title or a banner is not enough to skip the rest of the information below that.
The title was intended to inform that we have been working on a next product generation that is compatible with Lion.

Again, nowhere is stated anything about version 6.6 of SilverFast being compatible with the latest Apple operating system (even if you read the cache from google, thanks Semmelberg for that).

Believe me, the LaserSoft Imaging team has been working for quite some time at a 200% of our capacity to face this challenge (this of course includes weekends and daily extra hours) to offer our customers a solution.

We are sorry for the actual situation and appreciate your understanding and patience until the solution is out there.

With kind regards

Locking Posts

Postby tgphoto » Thu Jul 21, 2011 3:37 pm

Alejandro,

Locking posts and limiting discussion with your customer base is the Internet equivalent of "taking your ball and going home".

If Lasersoft Imaging doesn't wish to admit they screwed up with their latest announcements of Silverfast and Lion compatibility, fine. It's a hell of a way to run a business, but that's your prerogative. I read the entire announcement, and the point remains you specifically tell users they may enjoy Silverfast NOW (as in right now, this very second, not tomorrow, not next week, but now) by using version 6.6 in an announcement claiming compatibility with Leopard.

Karl-Heinz Zahorsky and I have personally discussed your childlike tantrums and factual inaccuracies in the past. Do not expect this thread locking to go unnoticed, or unmentioned. Whenever his little plane lands, he and I are going to have a sit down about this, trust me.

Have a great day!

Sincerely,

I respect your opinion. In my opinion I do not believe discussing the topic further will lead to a different outcome nor change any of the facts.

Actually SilverFast 6.6 does work with Leopard, and even with Snow Leopard, and we are not saying the oposite anywhere.

Lion however is a different situation and I kindly invite you or any person in this forum to show all participants here where exactly have we explicitly stated Version 6.6 of SilverFast being compatible with Lion.

I believe (and this is my personal opinion and not an official statement of this company), and with all respect you and all users deserve, experienced computer users know migration to new operating systems can be painful since they come with lots of problems of different kinds, being this is certainly true to peripherals.
I can understand your frustration as well as all other people in this forum thread, however We did not encourage nor force you or anybody else here to update to the operating system in question, especially knowing that users have a stable operating system working without major issues.
It is even a policy of our company to recommend people to test the software first before taking any final decision.

I did not know I had childlike behavior, I address every person and users in a respectful manner and do not intend to disrespect anyone (and this in every aspect of my life).
I am sorry you perceive things in that way, but mostly I am sorry that all my efforts to try to contact you through your site almost a year ago to participate in our external testers program went completely unnoticed. Appart from the fact that your contribution would have been invaluable to the development of the new product, you would probably had an application which you could use to keep working under this circumstances.

Probably you will be able to discuss this issues with Mr Zahorsky very soon, I will report about the situation, he will surely be happy to contact you.
