6.6.1r3 saying scanner not ready?

I am encountering a problem with my Epson 4870 with Mac OS X 10.6.1

I used to have Silverfast software which came with the scanner. 6.4 and something. I again started to scan and even purchased the new version to function with my new OS.

I get very unstable performance, sometimes the program states no scanner found and when I get it launched it states "scanner not ready"..

I can use the scanner with Epson´s own Universal Epson Scan 3.0.3 E driver from the same firewire port as I tried with Silverfast. I have latest Intego firewall and virusscanners.
Also NIk Software installed, but should not affect because I am not trying to scan through Photoshop CS4.

Dear Rami,

is it possible that you have conected the Scanner via FireWire, if this is the case please go to your Macs System Preferences -> Network and delete the FireWire interface as a Network Device their. This does sometimes cause problems.
