Scanmaker III and Silverfast Ai

Running Panther
Installed Silverfast Ai
Scanner model: Microtek Scanmaker III

Scanner previews but when scanning it takes forever and scans a blank black document and saves it as normal to my desktop.

After the first scan my scanner disappears and my ready light turns off.
this has happened on two machines running Panther and Microtek ScanMaker IIIs.
