Can someone either here or offline explain to me why Epson appear to be the only people supporting TWAIN on OSX? In this article on Oreilly MacDevCenter http://www.macdevcenter.com/pub/a/mac/2 ... nners.html Silverfast is described as a TWAIN plugin. It claims that Microtek announced TWAIN support was forthcoming 2 years ago, but it's not part of my i900 bundle that ships with Silverfast AI6. And, the link they mention at Microtek with OSX info is dead and gone.
It isn't that I feel Apple's Image Capture or for that matter iPhoto is all that useful with this scanner, but it's just one more case of lack of integration and it means it does not integrate with Graphic Converter which I use all the time. Apple goes to great pains to make the public think integration is their middle name but still everyone goes off and develops stove pipe applications that don't integrate. Silverfast is a very powerful tool but it has never looked anything like a native OSX application in spite of it's high cost. It's a good thing the resultant images don't look as bad as the interface.
Now that I think of it, I am wondering how long MacIntel support will take Lasersoft once the hardware ships and more importantly will there be TWAIN, and will it be a pay upgrade?

Dear customer,
the TWAIN support is more an issue for manufactures. SilverFast as an imaging software is more focused on colormanagement and maximum quality output. As TWAIN has limited abilities we are more focused on the plug-in / standalone versions. I can only guess what the manufactures are planning or not, but as the standards within TWAIN are not consistent enough (more a problem for developers) it always expands the amount of work to implement a TWAIN version beside the testing of compatibilty.
For the Intel suppport, we are looking forward to it and we will our efforts into the developement for the new machines.
kind regards
