No go in Panther.

Does anyone have their Umax scanner working in Panther? I have a 2400s that worked in Jaguar, but refuses to work with Panther. Maybe someone has some tricks to get it to work. Thanks cdssh :(

PS= I am using a Adaptec 2930 scsi card.

SCSI cards

Postby LSI_Support » Mon Nov 03, 2003 7:28 pm

A lot of Users told us the same ! Some of them try to make an clean install (Panther - No Update) then it works. We think that something goes wrong if you try to update. (for now :-) )

We also test a lot of scanners everyday. All the time we got good results with Adaptec 2930 cards. (ID2)

All Umax scanners we tested allready are marked with the "Ready for Panther" logo.

I went through the entire list of scanners under Support>Supported Scanners. I didn?t find any ?Ready for Panther? logos on ANY scanner models, including UMAX. Am I looking in the wrong place? Where would I find that?

I?m using a G4 with an Adaptec 2930 SCSI board and a HP ScanJet 4c. Right now it works great with SilverFast 6.0.1. Have you tested the 4c scanner yet?

Thanks.

Well, you don?t make it easy...

I just looked around some more for those Panther logos. The only way to find them is to go to the specific software page, down at the bottom there?s a link for Mac OS X compatibility, click on that (which takes you to the download demo page) and then click on the support link for a list of manufacturers, click on that, then find your model, click on that, and see that NO it doesn?t have the logo.

I went through the entire list of manufacturers and models and found only 6 total that showed Panther compatibility.

It would be a lot easier, and would do your customers a great service, to just have a Panther-compatible page and just add to the list as you check their compatibility. How hard can it be to create a page with a list instead of making us hunt down the information through all those pages? And shouldn?t that information also be on the pages linked to the Supported Scanners page under Support? I?m glad your software is a lot easier to use than your web site.

Sorry to be so harsh, but that?s way too much trouble to find a simple answer.

I think rkusa has a great idea! List just the scanners that have been tested and working.

panther and low end umax astra 1220s problems

Postby abledesign » Thu Nov 13, 2003 3:26 am

Howdy, I've got a low end Umax astra 1220s, its served me very well and I refuse to part with the old girl. I've tried Silverfast6release5 and the scanner starts up and locks as it just starts moving the tube.
Silverfast works in OS9.22 I can see my scsi zip on the scsi chain in os10.3
Systemprofiler doesn't have a report on my adaptec 2906 card(usually very compatible and is 10.3 compatible)

Is it possible its a rom problem?(there are upgrades available overseas of more recent roms(can't download must buy chip).

Of interest in the installation of silverfast 6(5)
was the following events.

when it wanted to place photoshop import extension it saw different versions of PS7. It didnt say osx7 and 9.22(7), and as are both on the same partion I couldn't differate between them.
It/I first installed in wrong PS7 (os9( I have extensions that are OS9 only hence seperateinstalls)) I spotted this, removed the plug in entirely and renamed my PS7 (osx10.3) folder PS7x so as I could see which folder to choose. next install. (tried a manual palcement of plugin first no luck)
Finally choose the right folder and wouldn't work.
It had installed in STREAMLINE4??! in same drive)
Corrected this manually no luck.
Tried a reinstall no luck.
Silverfast starts, but scanner locks after first noises of movement,
If anyone gets silverfast to work on a 1220s or another lowend umax scanner please reply. abledesign(at)bigpond.com
