can't find nikon scanner

Postby photocurio » Fri Feb 27, 2004 12:03 am

I have a g4 mac with 2 firewire scanners: a umax powerlook 1100, and a nikon ls-4000 ed. the mac is running osx panther. the nikon has silverfast ai 6 installed, and the umax has silverfast se installed.

when I installed the sf se for the umax, my silverfast for the nikon became unable to see the nikon ls-4000. system profiler can see it fine. I do not have nikonscan installed, nor do multiple users use this machine. I tried re-installing the sf for nikon, but nothing changed: it still can't see the scanner. can anybody help???

Dear photocurio

admittingly a tricky situation. The nikon drivers (NikonMAID driver library is used and installed with SilverFast as well) are kind of picky when it comes to other scanners also being installed into the system.
If any case, please download and use the latest SilverFast releases available.
For Panther please also make sure that at least 10.3.1 is installed.
Hope this helps.

can't find nikon scanner

well I do have the latest version of SF ai (6.2.0r4), and the latest OSX (10.3.2). This doesn't seem to be the issue. I have found that by re-booting with the UMAX unplugged, SF does see the Nikon, but this workaround is very satisfactory, since I often need to use both scanners.

Hi Noack,
I meant not very satisfactory.

Dear photocurio

I am fully aware that this must seem awkward (not only) to you.
However, we do have a similar problem with Nikon and Epson combos, and it seems the source of the trouble is within the NikonMAID drivers.

Until now we unfortunately can't offer a more convenient solution to this dilemma - but be assured we shall keep an open eye for one.

Hello!

I crashed in this problem too!
Today i decided to bring my old LS30 back to work after a year and so i updated my SF Ai to the latest 6.4.1r2 for ALL my scanners. I reinstalled the Nikon version and here the drama starts.

First my Minolta Elitescan 5400 on firewire hangs up and could only be found again after plugging it to USB connection, not even a initial reset on switching the power off and on again helped on that. Second time the Nikon LS30 wasn?t found anymore, it only shows up once after installing SF Ai from scratch! The only Scanner that is fine like before, is my Epson 1680pro on USB connection!

I?m running OS X.3.7 with Launcher 2.1.1 and the above mentioned SF versions. My SCSI card is a Adaptec 2906 (recognised by the systemprofiler).

Any tips available in the meantime???
BTW.
How can a scanner driver lock the access to other devices? I allways thought, that OS X loads drivers only when needed!? So having three scanners and can only access one of them permanently and two others only accidentally is real a weird thing to me...

thanks in advance
wolke
