Best scanner for OSX/Photoshop ???

Postby ntaglass » Sat Mar 27, 2004 7:25 pm

I've been using a Umax 6400 with the latest version of Silverfast AI and Photoshop 7. My scanner is going to need to be replaced and, given all the incompatabilities with Umax, I thought I might try another brand. This is my 5th Umax tho, and I might just keep fighting the software incompatabilities if there's nothing really better that's as cheap.

I scan dichroic glass, which will, no matter what i do, scratch the scanner after a period of time, making it necessary to replace it. So i don't buy expensive scanners, I have to replace a scanner after usually about 18 months.

Anyone out there got any suggestions? Including any sort of film i could apply to the scanner to protect the glass and extend the life of whatever i wind up with? So far everything I've tried has either distorted the color or scratched so fast its a waste of time. I could spend more if they'd only last longer!!!!

thanx,

jeanne

Dear Jeanne

some scanners do already offer the possibility of "glassless scanning".
You might want to try a google search for this term...
